I haven’t followed the Kyle Rittenhouse trial in Wisconsin closely. You can only follow so many things. As I said the other day in Tying It Altogether, civil liberties and freedom are under a total assault from lots of different directions.
Yesterday the trial got really interesting. The case for the prosecution imploded with the failure of its star witness. I will leave it to the legal eagles to analyze the peculiarities of the law as it pertains to the trial. I am not a lawyer, and know circumstantial things about law. It’s why you hire them.
There are two things that really stuck out for me reading the linked article. They really stick in my craw.
How come the star witness wasn’t charged with a felony? After all, he had a concealed weapon, and didn’t have a concealed carry permit in the state of Wisconsin? That is besides the fact that he was contributing to a riot that destroyed millions of dollars of private property. The people who went into the Capitol building on January 6th have been on lockdown for less.
When it’s clear that the star witness is absolutely lying to the court under oath, why isn’t he charged with perjury?
How did a video of the shooting suddenly appear on the doorstep of the prosecution?
From the linked legal blog: As entertaining as the Grosskreutz cross-examination was to watch, another highlight of the day was ADA Binger’s “triumphant” presentation of his suddenly discovered “Unicorn” evidence that I supposed is intended to put the final nail in the coffin of Kyle’s self-defense narrative.
This “unicorn” evidence comes in the form of drone footage—not the FBI aerial footage we’ve already seen, but footage from a consumer-level drone, like a DJI Mavic 2 Pro. This amazing video footage purportedly appeared on the prosecutor’s doorstep just this past Friday morning, left I suppose by the evidence fairy.
That seems highly suspicious, if not illegal. Courts are not Perry Mason. There is an organized and extended period of “discovery” in which depositions are given and all evidence held by both sides is transparently seen so each side can build their case.
What’s going on with these Wisconsin prosecutors?
What’s going on with the law enforcement personnel in this part of Wisconsin?
Do you think you’d get a fair shake if you had a run-in with the law in this part of the state?
It doesn’t matter what you think of Kyle Rittenhouse. However, you ought to be on the side of an American citizen getting a fair shake in an American court of law. One of the most fantastic stories of America’s founding is the story of John Adams defending British soldiers in pre-Revolutionary Boston. The odds look like Rittenhouse will win his case without getting a fair shake.
When people engage in an activity like this it casts a stain of corruption on all of civil society. Actions like this make it easy for ten thousand conspiracy theories to bloom. This is especially true in a climate where one political side has zero trust or respect for the other political side.
No matter which side of the political divide you are on, and there is no neutral independence, objectively ask yourself these questions.
Ever wonder why there are people claiming voter fraud in the Presidential election? Look no further than points two and three above.
Ever wonder why people think the stock market is rigged? Look no further than points two and three above.
Ever wonder why people get hopeless and think the American Dream is no more? Look at points two and three above.
People just want to be treated equally, especially when it comes to the law. When we uncover a rigged game, it tears at the entire fabric of civil society. We are uncovering more and more of them every single day. America’s temperature is continuing to rise.
Jeff, you are crushing it -- CRUSHING IT -- with your topics, the quality of your writing, your logic, you conclusions. Well played.
Whatever you're drinking, I need a case of it.
