Remember the “Missiles of October”? 90 miles from the US. The Russians tried to install nuclear missiles in Cuba. It was 1962 and it sparked an international crisis. We were close to nuclear war.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau (Elite Wimp) of Canada banned all guns in Canada. Trudeau has consistently shown his true colors and they are totalitarian. Just look at how he treated the truckers.
I look at the path the Canadians are on and the makeup of their current legislature and I can’t help but wonder how they will get off the path to totalitarianism. They have actual “out of the closet” communists in the legislature. 27/337 members are communists. 158/337 are left-wing. In the US, we have commies in the legislature but few are actually out of the closet. Although, that is changing with the continued leftward pull (not drift) of the Democratic Party.
The US has had a terrible time trying to export classical liberalism and capitalism. In fact, we have a tough time even selling those values at home.
Canada will probably not recover.
We know how this ends. See why countries have invaded other countries in the past, or should we say, recent past.
Well, it's always darkest before dawn. My choice of a trite cliche is because I choose to be an optimist on this. It seems to me that America was in a similar state just prior to the election of Ronald Reagan. His optimism changed things, and reminded our country that we can do what is needed.
One of the things that I have always seen with successful, independent people (who are usually classically liberal or conservative) is that they (we) never give up. Liberty needs a constant stream of energy, wealth, education and sacrifice. We were led astray if we were to think that liberty--once obtained--would stay with us, cost free.
So we press on. It will take courage to loudly get in the face of those who wish to steal our liberties, and it won't be easy.
I know, some days I feel as dark as anyone, where no matter what we do the Left continues their march leftward. We have to resist the temptation to concede and just accept that we will be at permanent tension and even war against them. They are just as susceptible to pessimism as we are--perhaps even more so.
So stick it to them, and remind them--constantly--of why their ideology is misguided and where it eventually leads.
Thank you Jeffrey, for writing this.
Yup. The CBC Canadian Broadcast Corporation has taught a couple generations of Canadians to think like Socialist nutters. It will take a sustained economic disaster before they rebel against the burden of taxation and over regulation. In other words, like California, it will have to get far worse before they even try to get better.
