It's sad how the younger generation has been hornswaggled into thinking that we don't have it amazingly good here. There's absolutely no country in the world that is even close to the opportunities we have. IF ... you chose to take them.
It takes work, no doubt. I spent years and years of 3000 hours a year of work (and paid no overtime), but I raised four kids well on a single income. Good homes, college/tech school for the kids ... you can't get that opportunity anywhere else.
I was there in 1988/89 viewing my counterpart holding a rifle guarding a minefield on HIS side of the fence. And then the Wall came down. Impressions. E. Germany was a 5th, not 3rd world.
Well done, Jeffrey! Putting forth this lovely woman, one of many of her generation, who have fled Cuba to find success in their newly adopted country, and yet still pine for a return to their homeland. Completely understandable, given the thuggish reign of the communist Castros. Please notice how it is only the insiders who get rich in these socialist-communist countries.
I am old enough to remember the fall of Cuba and the endless interviews by far too admiring journalists in the mainstream media, especially the utterly fawning Barbara Walter's interview, who called Castro the most fascinating man whom she had ever met!
Can you imagine how much greater our country would be if we had an honest media? So much that divides the country wouldn't exist!! I'm waiting for the Lame Stream Media to spin what's going on in Cuba as "Trump Bad" and "The last 70 years of oppression in Cuba" are somehow his fault instead of just telling the plain truth!!
I love it when things align like this, Jeff! Too cool to pass on. My Bible study group is currently in Galatians, and reading your story made me jump straight to Galatians 3:28. The correlation between that family’s experience of pursuing freedom in America and the idea of salvation for all who pursue it is intriguing. While American freedom is a massive blessing, Paul’s point in Galatians is that spiritual liberation does not depend on your race, class, or gender. It is available to all who pursue it. Although citizenship and salvation are two things taken for granted by many, they both have unbelievable rewards. God Bless America, the best country in the world!!
Cuba Libre!
Si!

Thanks for this story of optimism and hope, grounded in the real life of one person.
May God hasten the release of those living in tyranny.

They are here now in our major cities.
