God speed Mr Carter! Too bad you couldn't do it in our failed State of Illinois, but at least you're in a place where you can effect change. And please leave the welcome mat out for the likes of me who is still tied to Illinois due to family.

Best of luck and I'm totally behind you!

Laura and I are excited that you are running. We look forward to supporting you Jeff!

From one Treasurer to a soon to be another, good luck.

That's a better and more positive message than any I've heard from an Illinois Republican in the last 20 years. All we get is "Pritzker bad!" Bunch of stone cold losers.

Earl Camembert's avatar

Well, Pritzker really is the worst governor we've had other than Blago, but you're right - you have to communicate a vision beyond pure knee-jerk opposition.

Then again, I'm trying to think of something Pritzker did that I agree with. Give me a few months and I'll think of something.

All right, best of luck… sorry I can’t vote for you as I am in the Free State of Florida…. But we are with you in spirit.

Tell any friends or acquaintances you might have in Nevada, and you can always donate a little money. Funny thing in this fight with socialism, elections are very nationalized now. It matters if there is fraud in Minnesota.

Good luck! You have the CV and financial logic on your side, now knock ‘em dead with your trading floor persuasion skills!

My only advice would be to campaign and meet with people in the middle and lower classes since there’s way more of them than the upper class. Think of what Trump did with the unions. The union leaders weren’t supportive of him but the union members were, because Trump constantly showed up and talked to them.

I think that honing your message in lower class areas can do nothing but good for a state wide campaign. I said in a previous post that most people don’t even know what the State Treasurer does, but everyone, even poor people, have a kitchen table where they sit down and work on their financial stuff. You’re running to be the guy sitting at Nevada’s kitchen table keeping track of all the money. That’s it. Everyone understands that, even if they don’t know what a state bond offering is.

Please bring up Illinois and how you do not want Nevada to become Illinois. I live in a semi rural area, and absolutely everyone knows what’s going on in Chicago and Illinois to a stunning degree. I’ll bet it’s the same in Nevada. It’s one of the things that amazed me the most here in Western NC. I am the one who explains Illinois to the locals. You will be the one explaining Illinois and corrupt governance to the Nevadans. The good people in my area do not understand corruption because it’s unfathomable to them.

I'm excited for you and the State of Nevada. I just hope the muck and insanity of government does not frustrate you too much. What may seem commonsensical to you, will be completely foreign to those working around you. But you know that going into it.

Good luck to you. I have friends in NV and will spread the word.

Bravo and Godspeed!

Not sure I ever said it but long thought you should do something like this.

People of Nevada, pay attention. This gent has worked in markets where, generally, corruption cannot stand.

PS I am jealous he isn't running for the same in my corrupt Minnesota :-D

Jeffrey Carter's avatar

No, but I pay property taxes there and a portion of it goes to the state....so we are ticked about the fraud in Minnesota

This guy would do a bang up job.

Really solid point about how being a treasurer isn't a learn-on-the-job position. I've seen way too many public finance disasters where someone thought they could just figure out risk managment as they went. The 2008 Illinois 529 story is a perfect example of what happens when people dunno the difference between structrual risk and headline risk. Back when I was working in portfolio analysis, we had a similar situation where real estate wrappers masked the actual volatility profile.

Thank You. An example of the responsibility of citizens to ‘step into the arena’ for the country.

Great write-up.Wishing you all the best, especially in this endeavor. I know you will bring a refreshing dose of professionalism, competency and character to an often less than that profession.

Great news. Good luck, Jeff. I’m with you entirely on career politicians.

I think my professional organization only allows political contributions for someone you can vote for (I'm not an NV resident), but I'll check.

You would be the first, and probably only, candidate I ever contribute to.
