The party “No Labels” failed. It was a decent idea, but poorly executed, and didn’t have enough money. People yell about “money in politics” a lot on both sides of the aisle but you can’t have a political party without money.
The Wall Street Journal and other right-leaning publications are dismayed. You can feel the wetness of their tears. They are no champions of the middle class of America or the mainstream. They are the champion of corporate America. Corporate America has moved to the left over the last twenty years.
No Labels also failed to understand the underlying currents in American politics. If there is a commonality behind the early Bernie Sanders supporters, the Ron Paul supporters, and the Tea Party movement it is to get big government and big corporate out of their lives.
No Labels was for big government. Hence, it didn’t have what we call in the startup community, “product-market fit”.
The Democrats have chosen to go further left and embrace socialism and centralized bureaucratic government as the principle to govern citizens. They want “democracy”, but not a competitive democracy. They want a controlled democracy where they decide who gets to run for office and how we vote.
Republicans have several splits in the party. There is the Romney/McCain wing. They are like the old blue-dog Democrats. They never met a government program they didn’t like and instead of spending trillions on solving a problem they will spend billions and institute a “private-public” partnership that rewards cronies. They say things that people want to hear, but when it comes time to vote, they aren’t there. McCain’s last Senate vote to keep Obamacare is a perfect example.
Hence, the rank-and-file conservatives in the Republican Party don’t trust them. They are RINOs. The Romney people were comfortable with the No Labels people. Many of the No Labels are former Republicans.
Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is a good example of this RINO/No Labels mentality. She is telling people she will be independent. But, the truth is she won’t be. She will sell herself to the highest bidder. She is a corporate crony. She sets the rules of competition up so only her people win.
The old Reagan Republicans are different than the Romney crew. They are free traders, and for small government. They are for a strong defense. They are pro-innovation. They are pro-life. They are willing to use the big stick of defense and the money from American taxpayers for aid to foreign countries to try and institute freedom throughout the world. They are anti-Trump because of tariffs. They also abhor Trump because of his demeanor and bearing. They are much more polite. They tolerate the Romney wing of the party merely to stay in power. They are too willing to compromise with both the Romney wing and Democrats to get small things done. Meanwhile, when they aren’t in power the other side gets big things done and the government of the country takes great leaps to the left.
Nikki Haley tried to be Reaganesque. But, it didn’t fit her. She didn’t wear it well and when she spoke, everyone could see the words were hollow and very scripted. She came off as a phony except when she talked about abortion. She nailed that issue and Republicans across the country ought to mimic her if they want to win elections. She tried to appeal to the Trump people and the Republican Romneys and the Reagan Republicans but she couldn’t thread that needle.
If Haley were such a Republican champion and her ideas so popular, why isn’t she out-stumping for Republican Senate and House candidates on the trail today?
Trump people are different. They are mad as hell and they aren’t going to take it anymore. They see their country slipping away. They see the radical left for what it is, and they are willing to fight for it. They also are willing to overlook all the warts Trump has because he fights. Trump has a lot of warts. Because this part of the party is mostly middle class, they are looked down upon by the Romney people who control the Republican narrative in the mainstream media, and they certainly are looked down upon by the Democrats. The situation is so dire, they have embraced Trump and they won’t let go even when given an alternative like Ron DeSantis.
They are done with the constant wars and foreign aid. They are done with a lot of the policies Big Government has foisted upon them because they know they are the only ones that have to pay the price. One example, the Romney wing sends their offspring to fancy private schools while they have to toil in the public school system. They might actually be worried about some unsolvable problem like global warming but know full well the people that are coming up with the solution will put it all on their back. Electronic vehicles are a good example.
They aren’t articulate in the same way the elites are and don’t speak in fancy language. They don’t have fancy degrees from the right school and they don’t go to the right restaurants or clubs. But, they are smart. They know a lot stinks in America and more importantly they understand how the country was founded and the principles it was founded upon, so they know what’s at stake.
They have been backed into a corner.
Trump is the one candidate that speaks their language and actually understands them. He has found product market fit for the most part. RFK Jr has found it with a small segment of people. But, RFK doesn’t truly understand the middle class. Biden abandoned them to throw in with the left just so he could be President. He will do anything they ask to stay in the job no matter how much it damages the country, or how much it damages the people he said he represents.
If you are any flavor of Republican, you are left with what you see as a poor choice between Trump and Biden. I have news for you. Trump > Biden. It is much better to hold power and try to change the party than to be out of power and try to change the party. You will get some things that you like if Trump is President. You will cringe a lot but it will be better than what is in store for you if Biden gets a second term and if Democrats control the Senate and House.
If you don’t see that then your part of the party will never hold power ever again. If Trump loses, the Trumpers will walk and check out. They will wait for the government to come for them and it won’t be pretty when it does. For evidence, see how the current Biden Administration treats peaceful pro-life protestors. See how the Obama administration treated Gibson guitar.
Trump is the one candidate that speaks their language and understands them. He’s worked side by side with them in construction. He has the fancy upbringing and fancy degree of the Romney class. He understands them too. He has found product market fit for the most part. RFK Jr has found product market fit with a small segment of people. But, RFK doesn’t truly understand the middle class. He was never with them. Biden abandoned them to throw in with the left just so he could be President. He will do anything they ask to stay in the job no matter how much it damages the country, or how much it damages the people he said he represents.
The Trumpers also see the lawfare taking place for what it is-a government persecution of one person organized by the Biden Administration and the Democratic Party. If Trump gets convicted, they know it is phony. A bought judge, and a bought judicial system. They know what will happen to them if they have to face it
Tea party were the middle class objecting to the government take over of health care. They were polite . They were demonized. So the Tea Party learned and they are the kernel of Trump voters. It is not that they love Trump as cult. They like that Trump fights for their values.
