As I watch the events in Ukraine develop, I am filled with questions.
Leading up to it, anchor Tucker Carlson and others made the case that it is not in the best strategic interests of the United States to commit troops and treasure to go to war in Ukraine.
I never heard a contrary opinion.
My friend Jeff has posted a lot on the military stuff here.
I think like anyone of us watching, we are inspired by the vigorous defense of the Ukrainians. Many are leaving jobs and countries they emigrated to in order to fight for their country. Their President is leading.
He was supposed to be a low-grade comic and people like Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau were great leaders. Compare and contrast them over the past month.
It is refreshing to see the countries of the EU actually buck up and put some money into defense and indigenous energy. Ironically, President Trump called them out on that a few years ago and Trump was cast as evil by the press. Angela Merkel hated him.
Trump was correct and was saying things that were on American minds for years.
We are here now and there is nothing we can do about the past. What next?
I think lighting up buildings and bridges with Ukrainian colors, changing your social media profile to wave the Ukrainian flag is nice, but it means little to the people on the ground.
I get the feeling that if the American air force flew into the fight, it would be over almost as soon as it starts. But, as my friend James says, that risks WW3. Or does it?
I don’t know the answer.
I also get the feeling that if NATO committed troops, the fight would be over. But, what are the consequences?
Do you go into Russia and decapitate Putin? I don’t think you can “win” if you just stop the invasion and have a stalemate. If you stopped the invasion, do the Russian people and their own military have enough strength to take Putin out themselves. That is a much better alternative.
I don’t know the answer.
Of course, we rely on our intelligence offices and military to know these answers. However, I fear they have been concentrating on gathering intelligence on a bunch of rioters from Jan 6 2021, and figuring out ways to “green” up the military instead of doing what they are supposed to do. Protect us so we can enjoy the freedoms guaranteed to us by the Bill of Rights and Constitution.
The President needs to gather up his people in a room and figure out a way forward. If it’s a passive way forward, a case needs to be made to the American people why they chose that, and why it will work. If it is an active way forward, the same rules apply.
I do know this. If they do something active, without clear parameters of success and a clear end game whatever they do will fail.
Anyone know what happened/happens to Burisma as a result of this? Not sure if they get taken over or benefit. Not mentioned anywhere.
> do the Russian people and their own military have enough strength to take Putin out themselves.
Russian people certainly don't and the majority likely have been brainwashed into believing that Russia is fighting against nazis in Ukraine. Those who are still in their sane minds can't really do anything, if they dare as much as go out on the streets and protest they will get thrown in jail and that's it for them. Putin has enough loyal forces to crush any open opposition in the crib.
Western leaders made this all happen when they essentially looked the other way after the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and continued business as usual, funding Putin's empire in exchange for its mineral resources. He saw their weakness and decided that nobody's gonna stop him this time, and now when his blitzkrieg failed, he just can't turn back as that would be the end of him, so he's trying to crank it up till the other side blinks. He's like a terrorist with a bomb strapped to his chest and his thumb on the button who took hostages.
Or this is all a theater (dead people and razed buildings are certainly real though) and exactly what the world elites need to end the pandemic. Could even be both, but something went wrong with a quick and "clean" invasion.
