This was my second election living in a swing state. In 2020, I moved to Nevada in October so I didn’t get the barrage of ads that I received constantly this year.
No one likes political ads. They used to be well thought out and sometimes funny. Now they simply suck. I tune them out.
Everyone detests political texts and frankly, those should be banned by the FTC or an act of Congress. They are highly disruptive to life. I was getting 20-40 per day. It didn’t matter if I responded “Stop” and then deleted them while marking the number as spam.
This year, the ads were full of outright lies. Not even half-truths like the past. Not stretching the truth, but bold-faced lies. In a court of law, they would jail the ad for purgery.
I don’t think that is right. Politicians shouldn’t be able to spread actual lies to get elected.
The politicians that “approved the message” of lying show that they truly have no moral character. I have been lectured by Democratic friends who tell me Trump has no moral character. Many of them have Trump Derangement Syndrome so any statement by Trump sets them off.
I know that politicians aren’t the most solid people when it comes to speaking and haven’t been since the Roman Senate. But, this election and the 2022 election ads seemed to feature outright lies on several topics, especially abortion and records of bipartisanship.
I don’t know what to do about it. I don’t mind the ads if they actually inform. But, if they keep this up we could get a movement to take them off the air, just like the Big Pharma ads.
Great observations Mr Carter, but we live in the era of uninvited "information" with the tech to shovel the shite to our phones. Might be a worthy startup for some company to develop an app that shields us from that stuff.
Totally agree. If I may add... Trump is a successful businessman which absolutely requires truth. He spews hyperbole all the time, but when things matter he is a very transparent dude. I remember many occasions during his first term where courts instructed him about how a policy of his wasn't constitutional and he simply said "Okay, thanks. New direction team."
Contrast that with most others, namely Chuck U Schumer or Mitch McConnell.
