The holiday season is upon us. The political season is just over. Let me give you a political gift courtesy of some friends of mine to help you understand what’s at stake. Maybe it will be a good conversation topic at your holiday table.
If you still don’t understand why Trump resonated with people, try and read Laura’s tweets and see it from her perspective. Trump is probably not the best person to go forward with, but a competitive primary will establish that fact. Competition is good. As you will see, a large segment of the US wants to abandon it.
My friend Laura is a law professor at Notre Dame. She has written for years and taught for years. She understands the law intimately. She’s written for several publications.
Professor Hollis had a tweetstorm this morning that gets to the heart of what we are fighting for today in America. I used @threadreadererapp to compile it.
Tea Party Barbie
Thread:
At a certain point, you should be able to see through bullshit. But when you're an egotist or your Lefty guilt-ridden "noblesse oblige" politics dominates your worldview (or both), you'll keep falling for frauds and grifters.
Consider all these RECENT examples:
After the 2000 dot-bomb, it was "Never again."
But in 2003, OFHEO head Armando Falcon warned Congress that changes to Fannie Mae's/Freddie Mac's rules re subprime mortgages were going to create massive losses.
They called him a racist and ignored him.

Freddie Mac Accounting Practices OversightArmando Falcon testified before The Senate Banking, Housing, & Urban Affairs Committee, regarding accounting practices at Freddie Mac, and the events leading up to irregularities in recent Freddie Mac…https://www.c-span.org/video/?177453-1/freddie-mac-accounting-practices-oversight
In 2008-09, the housing market collapsed, taking down banks and destroying billions of dollars in wealth.
The same arrogant people who refused to heed warnings (Rep. Barney Frank, Sen. Chris Dodd) stuck their names on legislation after the fact and proclaimed themselves saviors.
In 2015, @WSJ writer @JohnCarreyrou exposed the $700M fraud of Elizabeth Holmes and her startup Theranos. All the same "brilliant" people had bought her b.s. hook, line & sinker w/out question - or even seeing the technology.
Yet again: "We won't miss the red flags next time!"
Holmes hasn't even been sentenced yet, and here comes ANOTHER financial ripoff, this one orders of magnitude bigger than Theranos, with the same predictable headlines: "How did this happen?" "What went wrong?" "Why didn't anyone see the red flags?"
OK. That's easy...
1. These people are big political donors - largely (tho not exclusively) to the Democrats. (I'm focusing on financial scandals, but we could also throw in Harvey Weinstein's serial sexual assaults and Ed Buck's dead male prostitutes for good measure.)
2. Even more importantly, they wrap their misconduct in the Invisibility Cloak of "social justice" and related buzz phrases that turn Lefties on: "save the world," "change the world," "heal the planet," "effective altruism," "antiracism," etc.
3. Many of them have degrees from schools that "everyone knows" admit and graduate the "smartest" people. So they hide behind what is, in fact, inaccurate, inflated and absurdly outdated credentialing. (It's OK if you drop out, BTW, because "the brightest" ppl do that, too.)
4. This is a heady mix - elite schooling, benevolent intentions, Lefty politics, big donations. Now add some obscurantist bullshit, and EVERYBODY in the Cool Crowd wants to be seen with you. No one wants to be the buzzkill who says, "This is crap."
The SAME people who have missed or caused scandal after scandal, crisis after crisis, are the ones telling us that they - and only they - must run the planet bc they're the "smart people" in the room.
They're wrong about everything, but we're supposed to listen to them.
They want to dismantle entire industries, including energy, transportation, agriculture, animal husbandry, food production and housing. "To save the planet," of course, even though decades of their vastly different but equally dire predictions have NEVER come true.
They have the gall to suggest that they should own everything and "lease" it to the rest of us.
They (govt, public health, big tech) have conspired with each other to lie to us and to prevent those investigating their lies from revealing them, with disastrous, deadly results.
They want to further extend their control by moving all currencies to digital, where they can be monitored, restricted and cut off, if anyone questions their authority or challenges their plans.
These would be horrible practices even if those behind them had a stellar track record of calling balls and strikes.
BUT THEY DON'T.
They are not only often wrong, they are almost ALWAYS wrong.
If they get control, they will destroy EVERYTHING.
Americans and all people across the globe must REJECT the globalists and their pet plans. They - and every government or corporation - that supports them must be defeated and disgraced.
I am going to add a few.
In 1998, you might not remember Long Term Capital Management and its debacle. But, it roiled markets and threatened to take down the entire worldwide financial system. Just so you know, Goldman Sachs CEO Jon Corzine said he would bail them out, downloaded their positions, loaned them the money and traded against them to push it to the brink. He made millions for Goldman and himself.
In 2011, Corzine did the same exact thing Sam Bankman Fried has done at FTX and took down MF Global. I wrote about the aftermath here. Corzine was a Democratic Governor and Senator and a huge bundler for Obama. He didn’t spend a day in jail.
In 2000, we had a Y2K “crisis”. If you are paying attention, they always need a crisis. Governments and corporations spent millions and millions of dollars to avoid a crisis that never manifested itself-and wouldn’t have.
Bernie Madoff was one of the elites. He took money from the elites and turned it into a Ponzi scheme.
Climate Change is a manufactured crisis based on flimsy data at best. The solutions being proposed aren’t worthy of anything but a blackboard and the elite private jet set that shuttles around the world to discuss the problem looks serious and speaks in hushed tones but in reality isn’t serious.
Covid was turned into a crisis for political reasons—→Get rid of Trump. Trillions of dollars were spent on a virus that killed old people with pre-existing conditions that were near death’s door anyway. It killed middle-aged people with pre-existing conditions that were not in good health. The vaccine that was created doesn’t stop you from getting Covid, nor does it stop the spread. The elites changed the definition of the word “vaccine”. There look to be huge problems with side effects of the vaccine in young men. Debate has been silenced, and data so intentionally obscufated it is hard to get a good read on it but data scientists that are objective are working through the problem. The other great Democratic power in the world besides the US, the UK, is at the financial brink today because of Covid policy. The US government debt exploded.
The new “same-sex marriage” bill being moved through Congress is 1000 pages long. What’s the real goal? Decimating organized religion’s tax-exempt status if it clings to the ancient belief that only men and women should be married. I don’t care if we recognize same-sex marriage civilly, but I do care when a government mandates the beliefs of a religion. By the way, men can’t have babies.
Harvard and Yale are abandoning US News and World Report rankings for law schools. You can object to the way US News ranks, but their objection isn’t based on merit, it’s based on subjective measures that have no bearing on how good a school is. When a society abandons merit and rewards subjectivity, look out. The rich/entitled rule and the rest have to get in line.
The “take away their guns” movement is really a larger goal to make it so you cannot defend yourself when the government infringes on your rights. You might not want a gun. No biggie. But, eliminating the choice is wrong and it’s also anti-Constitutional. What the news media doesn’t report is that most of the time there are mental or other problems with the person doing the shooting. It’s not the gun and no one is like a cowboy in an old Hollywood western unless you are Alex Baldwin.
Now, layer all this in with today’s WSJ editorial on my former state of Illinois. Democracy is dead in Illinois. It’s one of the reasons I left. If you don’t toe the line, you face discrimination, especially if you speak out. Not only socially, but in business too. The Democrats in Illinois are no different than the apparatchiks and communists in Cold War Russia or modern-day China/North Korea.
Democracy dies in darkness my ass. They are so full of crap that their eyes are brown.
Read the whole thing if you can but this is the money excerpt.
Even as Democrats claimed to deplore the influence of money in judicial elections, billionaire Gov. J.B. Pritzker circumvented the individual caps by using his personal trust fund to contribute to the Democratic judicial candidates in the two competitive races. Both won, giving Democrats a 5-2 majority. Not only did Democrats choose their voters, they essentially picked the judges who would hear any challenge to their overreach.
The thing is, it’s not just Illinois. It’s anywhere the Democrats have one-party rule. California is another case and point. Get ready Michigan for what’s coming.
You want to be a social issues voter? You think politics doesn’t enter your life and you are apolitical? Fine. Laura’s point number 2 is worth reading over and over until you really understand what it means.
To give you a real-world example. A female person who was of Hispanic descent and I tried to raise a fund in 2011ish. We pitched to an Illinois pension board that had publicly said they would fund women, and Hispanic-led funds if that person owned 51% of the fund. We did that. We didn’t get money.
What was the reason? She wasn’t “Hispanic enough” since she was Cuban.
If they get control and you fight them, you might take a copy of Alexander Solhenitzyen’s book with you and read it in your spare time when you aren’t doing hard labor. I won’t be going to the gulag with you.
I forgot to add "Recycling doesn't work". It's not economically efficient unless confined to metal, and perhaps glass.
The larger problem is fundamental. Conservatives largely just want to be left alone, and they view life as a "live and let live" mindset. Democrats and Leftists on the other hand, are activists. They are not content with living their lives; they want to control everything, everyone and feel very strongly about how you should live your life.
So we end up with the Left constantly pushing the Overton Window, sometimes violently, while the Right tolerates as much as possible just to avoid getting embroiled into their war games. Yes, there are activists on the Right, but they are minimal, and largely confined to the abortion issue. Yes, there are more conservatives "fighting back," but it's not their natural disposition. Conservatives are generally not control freaks, and don't wish to tell others how to live. There is a reason that libertarians identify much more closely with the Right than the Left. Conservatives will get involved generally when it affects their own life or family, which is what is happening on almost every issue now.
I believe that the Trump movement was an extension of the failed Tea Party movement, which itself was an exclamation of "enough is enough." When you see these people, they are not shouting how Leftists must live, but shouting about preserving their OWN way of life.
The problem is that when almost every institution in America has been thoroughly coopted by the left, there aren't many tools to fight with, and we are at the bottom of the proverbial hill, looking up at some very formidable fighting forces. Sacrifices would need to be made, and that's a big ask when most conservatives value their families more than anything else in the world. I'm not saying Leftists don't, but Leftists see politics and activism as an extension of family life, whereas conservatives seek to protect their way of life from politics. Witness how many Leftist women brought their daughters to the "pink hat" march on DC when Trump was inaugurated.
We (conservatives) have to fundamentally change how we view our civic involvement. We have to get into "war" mode and fight them the way they fight us. At the end of the day, most true believer Leftists are weak or mentally ill. These are not strong people, and they certainly don't have rational positions on many of their issues. They are emotional and struggle to control their behavior. These people should be relatively easy to outsmart and defeat.
But we need more of us to step up and ASSERT ourselves, whether it be in your child's school board, your local town's board, or simply in a position in your HOA. Everywhere one of us can have a voice, is another opportunity denied to a Leftist to have a platform and shape our futures. F' these people.
This is exactly what the colonists did in the 1770's. They just wanted to be left alone, but the King's army was not going to allow that. They had to give up wealth, peace and security to defeat tyranny.
We are getting close to the same existential crisis for this country. How many will step up?
