A bunch of states coordinated a “tax the rich” effort. Interesting that it comes out just a few months after a midterm election. Timing is everything! California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, New York, and Washington all want as John Kerry says, “Money Money Money”. I love this tweet because it shows how inept and stupid @Alex_Lee is. My description of his intellect is charitable on my part by the way.
Illinois defeated a progressive income tax proposal last year 55% to 45%. The communist Democrats are re-introducing it while border states are decreasing taxes and enacting school choice.
But, wait! It gets better. Chicago mayoral and teacher’s union-backed candidate Brandon Johnson unveiled his new tax plans for the city if he is elected. Let’s Go Brandon! I don’t think Chuy Garcia or Mayor Lightfoot would be far behind him in their advocacy for higher taxes.
It’s a kitchen sink of soak the rich ideas.
A 3.5% income tax for city residents AND suburban residents who earn their income in the city.
A Metra tax (for those that don’t know, Metra is the corrupt suburban government-run commuter rail system in the city of Chicago)
A transaction tax on trading. I am sure the HFT traders and exchanges will love that. They have only fought it since the 1970s when it was first proposed.
Increased Airline taxes
Increased Hotel taxes
This Brandon guy must be an economic genius. He says it will raise $800MM but I bet it raises closer to 0. In Maryland, they want to tax estates of $1MM or more because “That’s quite a bit of funds that we’re leaving on the table.” You know, because you didn’t build that and you didn’t really earn that.
Obviously, anyone that is sane or knows a modicum amount about economics and finance will tell you that all the above proposals are stupid and won’t work. My statement about an aroma being propelled from somewhere on my body not only goes for Let’s Go Brandon but all of these idiots.
The problem is, the ideas aren’t dead upon entering someone’s brain. There are plenty of true believers out there that think they will actually work! Even after they are beaten back by voters, like a zombie they rise from the dead and return.
Here is my solution. Enact ALL of the proposed taxes. Let’s get it over with. It will add steam to the “Great Sort” that is going on right now across the country. Productive people are leaving states that continue to embrace Marxism for free states. The Marxist states are left with lawyers and bureaucrats. Let them pass “reparations” then. Let’s see what happens.
It’s ironic that many of the old Civil War Confederate states which had slaves, and enforced Jim Crow, are now free states compared to the Union states. Are you freer in Texas or Michigan? If you fled a Marxist state like California and kept voting Democratic in your new state, I have no sympathy for you if your new state decides it is high time to reach into your pocketbook and grab your wealth. Washington State is a case and point. Move again, but don’t repeat the same mistake.
When I look at states like Mississippi and Alabama, I’d be going to 0% tax and full-on 100% school choice. Now is the time. The lefties I know in the blue states look down their noses at Southern states. Plenty of cheap land is available and I hear that Birmingham, AL has a similar feel to how Austin, Texas was 25 years ago. If I were a benevolent dictator in those states I’d be building big automated ports on the Gulf and running rail to them. I’d be deregulating business. I’d be funding medical schools to attract doctors and residencies.
Yesterday in my new home state of Nevada, new Governor Joe Lombardo said he’d be lowering taxes, lowering business taxes, pushing for voter ID, and pushing for school choice. He’s also got a plan to attract doctors to Nevada which is really needed. Of course, the Marxist Democrats that control the state legislature due to their gerrymandering don’t agree with him. But, they aren’t really on the side of the poor or the working class. However, they pay lip service to them.
For what it’s worth, Nevada is 50 out of 50 when it comes to public schools. Lower isn’t better. What a bang-up job the Democrats have done in creating an underachieving school system. It’s not about money as we know from looking at the dollars spent per student in places like Chicago. Government-run education is a failure. I know families here, and no one goes to public school if they care about educating their children. However, every time California governor Gavin Newsome opens his mouth, it’s great for Nevada and Arizona home values.
Okay Republicans, pay attention. Here is how it is done:
Of course, it’s 64-36 R v D in Iowa. A tip, primary and get rid of any Republican that voted against school choice. There are 9 of them.
I like the cut of Joe Lombardo’s jib. He’s plain-spoken and he’s a leader. He’s an executive, not a blowhard. Illinois governor JB Pritzker is a blowhard if you want an example of one. The last Nevada governor made his money in a lawsuit while selling timeshares. He was a true believer Socialist from Wisconsin who became a puppet of Gavin Newsome. His motto was “monkey see, monkey do”. Leaders are intimidating to puppets.
One of the best things about President Trump was that he was an “executive” not a blowhard. He knew how to run a company and get stuff done. When you look at Presidents who were great, they didn’t come out of a legislative body like the Senate or House. They were governors or executives. Legislative bodies are for blowhards. Trump also wasn’t a career politician, which is why the establishment in both parties along with the Deep State hated him.
The sooner we get the “Great Sort” over with, the sooner we all can “get shit done”. Beverly Pekala said it best on Twitter.
If you don’t know what Ms. Pekala is referring to, I suggest you Freespoke the phrase and purchase the book.
