I was not a fan of Howard Lutnick becoming Treasury Secretary. He is fine at Commerce.
I read Brian Wesbury’s tweet and strongly agree. Whomever Trump picks should not have supported TARP or Endless QE. I know the Fed did QE but Treasury did not mind.
The Treasury Sec cannot come from Wall St but needs familiarity with it, along with projecting stability.
A businessperson CEO type is not a fit. I feel like a hedge fund guy like Ken Griffin is way too inside and would be like having a Wall Streeter. I wonder if a guy like Don Wilson from DRW would be a good pick? Super smart. Knows the game. Plays chess in 5 dimensions and is not afraid to mix it up.
Would he do it if asked?
Wilson, looks great. I hope they choose disruptors.
Debt issuance has become the Treasury's primary reason for existence, and I reckon Lutnick knows more about the intricacies of domestic fixed income markets than any guy on the planet.
