We flew from Las Vegas to Minneapolis and drove to Grand Marias, MN to open our cabin this week. A bear had come by our place the day before we flew. Yogi decided to go down to my neighbor’s cabin and check things out at his place too. Last year he came by my place and tore down my bird feeders. Then, we didn’t really see him again.
Wildlife hangs around until the forest is full of humans.
We like to open up as soon as the ice comes off the lake to find out the problems. This year, NO LEAKS! That was nice. But, the snow crushed a corner of our deck and avalanched off the roof of the other cabin, and snapped the septic vent. The original Ben Franklin stove we have finally got a gap in the back so we need a new one of those.
A neighbor friend of mine set up a game camera literally 600 yards from our place. Look who has been coming by. Today when we were futzing around with things, this cow moose decided to stroll down the path.
A few days earlier, a wolf came by the same spot. We have been seeing more wolf activity around here in the last few years. I have been coming here for 50 and haven’t seen wolves very often.
A couple of Trumpeter swans came through today and we have buffleheads, mergansers, golden eye, and mallard ducks coming in daily. The barred owls are hooting and the frogs are peeping. It’s always an incredible time in the Spring when the snow melts. We had around 180 inches this year.
Tomorrow is water day. I put my waders on and get all the boat stuff in the water, fix the wood duck houses to make sure they are ready and adjust the docks. We have floaters and there is usually always some small issue with them. Better than bringing them in and out every year.
Fly back to Vegas Saturday and then to my daughter’s wedding in Chicago.
Love it. Wonderful. A different world.
I wish I was 5 hours closer, I’d be installing your new stove.
