We went to the Notre Dame game at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Nice stadium, but poor signage inside. Hard to figure out where to go. Typical food offerings from what I saw-but I didn’t exactly hunt around and scout it out. Seats were nice and we were in the upper deck behind an end zone.
The problem at Allegiant is that it is as bad or worse than Soldier Field to get into or out of. I will say, better to stay home and watch the Raiders than go to the game. The game day experience at Allegiant is pretty bad.
One thing I have noticed when I go to any event in any city is that I smell the remnants of someone smoking marijuana. It hangs in the air and you know the scent. The long hot walk to Allegiant from the packed-like-sardines parking garage was full of the spent herb’s aroma thick in the air. It was BYU vs Notre Dame, so I am relatively certain which team’s patrons were polluting the air.
I could be out walking my dog in any US urban area and the malodorous stench of marijuana’s signature patchouli fills my nostrils.
Pot is legal in most places these days which is fine by me. Legalize a lot of drugs is my motto. But, don’t have government programs or taxpayer-funded support for addicts. Plus, allow employers to discriminate if they want to. You want to kill yourself, go ahead. I can choose not to smoke/use it, just like I do cigarettes or cigars.
As a society, we place limits on tobacco and don’t tolerate it in a lot of places. Shouldn’t marijuana be exactly the same?
Saw this t-shirt in a restaurant after the game. A bunch of Fenwick alums that are my vintage came out to Vegas for the gridiron contest. TAL and LATO, they say hi. To enlighten the youngsters that might read this, it’s a riff on Catholics vs Convicts.
For the record before anyone gets outraged at me, the Mormons got rid of polygamy long ago and it’s only the crazy splinter sect that practices it. I will let others tell stories of Catholic “monogamy” in the comments!
Hope you had a great Columbus Day.
Most places where pot is legal it is illegal to smoke in public. That obviously doesn't always eliminate the public odor.
Alcohol is a lot bigger cause of societal issues than pot. Same day at 1 in the afternoon some dude so hammered he can't miss a light pole at Belmont/Western/Clybourn. https://chi.streetsblog.org/2022/10/10/allegedly-intoxicated-driver-struck-and-injured-woman-64-on-bike-at-belmon-western-clybourn/
Just because something is legal doesn't mean it's a good thing. Too many people in our society seem to be making lots of bad choices. And it's not a good thing that these bad choices are so tolerated by society. (That's not a call for more laws - we have enough.)
Fenwick guys, eh? I’m a Viator alum but my sons went to Fenwick so I suppose some leeway can be granted for mingling with that crowd.
