I was listening to the excellent Masters of the Air podcast. Towards the end, I don’t recall who said it but this is what they said.
At the Nuremberg Trials, one German said that the Allies could have just stopped the bombing of German cities anytime they wanted.
That citizen felt that it was not fair to have German cities firebombed. Of course, the Nazis bombed London repeatedly.
The difference between the Allies stopping and the Nazis stopping is that if the Allies would have stopped, the Nazis wouldn’t have stopped executing Jews and engaging in all the other horrific practices they engaged in. They would have continued to build and send V2 rockets to terrorize Londoners.
The bombing changed behavior in a big way and made the desire to fight another war go away in post-war Germany.
It’s also important to note that almost all of Germany’s citizens agreed with the direction of the country under Hitler. It wasn’t 51%, but more like 98%. Countless historians have confirmed that fact. In the podcast, they talk about interviews with German citizens right after the war and they didn’t express any remorse. They were only sad they were on the losing side. It’s shocking when you look back on it.
I thought that the final point was interesting. Flash forward to 2024, 79 years after the end of WW2. We have Israel trying to stamp out the terrorist organization Hamas. Hamas brutally attacked Israel on October 6.
Now, our President, Joe Biden has proposed supporting the Hamas terrorist organization with what he calls humanitarian aid. The problem is, that aid will wind up in the hands of the terrorists.
Don’t believe when they tell you it won’t. The federal government can’t keep track of anything. They don’t know where Covid money went and they don’t know where money to Ukraine is going either.
Israel can certainly stop. If they did, would Hamas? Would Hezbollah? No. You know they would not.
Just like the 1940s-era German citizens, a very large majority of Palestinians want Israel erased from the international map. If they wanted a “two-state solution”, it would have been implemented already.
Joe Biden’s proposal of aid, and a two-state solution is not dissimilar from English Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain’s idea of “peace in our time”.
The only way forward for the world, and Israel’s, peace is to wage a complete and total war on Hamas and Hezbollah so the Palestinians have no desire to wage a war of terror on Israel. Even a grudging acceptance where the people have no remorse is better than the current situation.
The Democrats are throwing the Jewish state of Israel under the bus.
The truth is that Hamas started this war because they knew that the rest of the world would restrain Israel. If they honestly thought that Israel would fight unconstrained I don't think they would have launched the war.
That is why this weakness of "immediate ceasefires now!" will ultimately put more people in body bags than otherwise.
The people arguing for the ceasefire don't care, as they want Palestinians to have the ability to rise up and fight again, another day.
Israel knows all this, and I think they are determined to not let it happen again.
And, of course, it's always Democrats who are on the "constraining" side, causing more problems.
Democrats cause more wars due to weakness and fecklessness than do the "crazy warmonger Republicans" because the enemies know that the Republicans (and Trump) will fight back.
The Left is always overly concerned with how things appear, rather than how they actually are.
Thank you for your thoughtful post. I recently returned from a tech mission to Israel. Someone in our group asked the deputy mayor of Jerusalem this question: Do you think Israel ought to go it alone and forget about America?
Her reply made me think: “No, we can’t do that. Don’t Americans realize that the only thing keeping radical Islamic jihad from America is Israel?…Israel needs America and America needs Israel.”
End of story. And thank you for being in the 10% that supports Israel. We appreciate you!!!!
