Quick trip to New Orleans this weekend. My friend Paul Hilliard turned 100.
You can search for Paul on your favorite search engine to learn more about him.
He is a World War II veteran, and I served on the World War II Museum Board of Trustees alongside him. He joined the Marines at age 17. He did over 50 dive bomb missions in the backseat of a Dauntless dive bomber.
But what I have learned from Paul is to be a relentless optimist.
Ask him about the war and he will say, “It was great. I got free clothes. Three square meals a day. Had an officer as a chauffeur, and I didn’t see what I was going into.”
Relentless optimism lets you live until you are 100.
I have learned to be giving because of Paul. Paul is a successful businessman. But he probably won’t be remembered for that. He’s going to be remembered for what he gave in his life.
I am lucky to know him.
Mr Carter- I found that short email to be one of the most inspirational things I've read in a while.
Few words, a couple pictures, big impact. Thank you sir.
I have known a couple of people similar to your description of Paul. All have imparted wisdom to those that knew them and all, without exception, have enriched the lives of others.
