RIP Dick Butkus...

Donald J Trump picks Ben Carson, MD as his running mate and he crushes it with his calm wisdom, patience, and sense of humor.

The US takes out the Houthis with an air campaign launched from carriers. Boom!

Hmmmmm......totally endorse carrier air campaigns against the pirates.....maybe even blow up their "bases" if you can find them.

Satellite and drone surveillance and recon pinpoints all those launching sites -- boom!

they train for the drone stuff out here in Nevada at Nellis AFB. I drove past the desert where they do it. Wonder if your video game proficiency is part of the USAFA and AFROTC application now.....

Seriously, some people have some mental problems with it. They "fight" all day and are in their own bed at night. I guess I don't understand that since it's different stress than someone sitting in a missile silo waiting to pull the trigger (and having to kill your partner if they don't follow the orders)

I love these predictions and if most come true, that would be great.

I don’t think the Dems can appoint an all white ticket, though. Bad optics for the strident Dem crowd in dropping Kamala. They inexplicably like her, which shows that real information does not penetrate the lefty bubble. Plus Whitmer gives off crazy Karen vibes, along with Hillary vibes, a whack job twofer.

Gonna be a hot time in Chicago at the August convention if certain groups feel marginalized by Dem backroom deals. The Dems are splintering and eating their own right now, I can’t imagine what it will be like by August as the migrants flood blue cities and commit more crimes.

Gretchen is a woman, and a power broker in the New Democratic Party. I think they can go "all-white". They don't care about minorities except for their vote. They might even go all white male----Jared Polis as VP. He's gay, and Jewish so they placate the Jewish lefties that might leave because of Biden's Israel policy

Silly me, thinking the Dems care about their voters!

Truer words than these haven't been written: "They don't care about minorities except for their vote."

I’m a restructuring professional. I’ve turned around a dozen businesses operationally, lead through cash crisis, investigated bank fraud, been a chapter 11 trustee, and much more BK garbage.

My favorite part of this prediction list is twofold: 1) the sheer breadth and depth of it and 2) Argentina and Javier Milei. I have been trying to figure out how to plot my path to Argentina for 6 months if he won. And now, here he is. And it’s happening.

With a 6yo, and family, roots, property here, it’s not easy to consider. It’s even harder convincing the spousal unit. But, I am determined, and Jeff, you are correct. It’s something to behold.

One area I’m considering, is wine export. Argentina does not have bad wine, and maybe, just maybe, this post will get you to do a deep dive on it for the juice illiterate of us.

I also see their beef industry as plausible.

An ambitious person, i.e., me, might even be cray enough to think about a new commodities/securities exchange in the country.

I don't know their wine very well. I have had some of it-but mostly just the cheap stuff. They have great grass fed/grass finished beef. It is an agricultural powerhouse. If there is oil or natural gas anywhere around there, they could rise swiftly.

I have never been there. My friends have been fly fishing there and say it is beautiful.

One person from Chicago Booth I know grew up there. He is a person of the left, so don't think he will love Milei.

Any hope for a successful restructuring of the US economy/political system?

51 is a great number. God bless Dick Butkus. In fact, I often ask myself, What would Butkus do?

Also, this quote from #13 is spot-in:

“The most toxic thing to American values is chardonnay drinking wealthy and upper-middle-class non-STEM college-educated white women.“

(By the bye, your donation to Hillary Clinton stuns me. Push!)

Obama was that bad.....(and Duffy was still brokering in the Hogs a bit. PLUS, I did want to see him have a good relationship with a future President....)

Oh, I understand. It’s just that my aversion to Chicago/Cook County Dems goes all the way back to my yute, when I delivered the Daily News from about 1970-1972 (I read the paper, especially Royko, before I delivered them). The corruption back then was staggering — even to a kid — and just continued to roll along for all these years.

Love the Butkus hat-tip! That said, Michigan winning the CFB championship is hilarious, topped only by your heart-over-head Cubs pick (Ha! They won't win their division, Jeff). Both are pipe-dreams. That said, I like many of your other predictions and hope many come to be. That said, I was surprised you made no predictions about the myriad of Trump legal proceedings and their outcomes; especially any Supreme Court "interventions." Happy New Year and keep up the great work in your "newsletter!" Cheers.

I am not a lawyer. Do you have any Trump legal predictions? Eamus Catuli

Expand full comment

Trump stays on all state ballots; the attempts by state elected officials and/or courts to invoke Section 3 of the 14th Amendment will be superceded by the Supreme Court, which will deny such applications. That said, Trump faces series legal issues in Florida, New York, & DC which will likely test the limits and bounds of presidential immunity -- another unique question for the Court... but not for 2024, in my opinion, limely '25. That said, Robert Reich, I predict, will get shorter in 2025, coming in at just under 4'11". 😉

Expand full comment

Is the legal question you refer to in FL the FBI document raid?

Expand full comment

Yes. The proprietary of the methods aside, Trump's retention of classified documents after his defeat is problematic (and yes, selective enforcement will be an issue) but will test immunity, privilege, executive powers, et al.

Expand full comment

Won't it hinge on POTUS' authority to declassify and selective treatment of Trump retaining documents versus Biden and Obama?

https://www.archives.gov/isoo/policy-documents/cnsi-eo.html

Expand full comment

The selective prosecution/unequal treatment issue will be addressed, but is not an effective defense, in my opinion. Obviously, we'll all soon see. The supposed de-classification by verbal command/wave of a hand (not to mention after the fact and WAY after Trump was required to return the sensitive documents) is the most vexing legal problem for the Trump defense team. Again, all of this is just one person's opinion, because with all things Trump, there's always novelty and chaos abound.

Great list. Anxious to see how much of a Nostradamus you turn out to be...BTW, been seeing tv commercials by Salesforce lately with Matthew McConaughey hinting that data may be the new gold. As for Dick Butkus, while his football career is admirable, his acting skills were entertaining. Happy New Year to you and yours!

Agree....check out SmartXdata.com. They have a pretty interesting take on data and I have been working with them.

Totally agree Biden will not be the nominee, but I'm thinking Michelle O, based on her biopic. https://pd1000.substack.com/p/is-michelle-obama-running

It's the Hail Mary pass of the party. They've played their Trump hate stupidly and are now paying the price.

Pres. Milei will do great things if he can withstand the attacks of the int'l left, including the US media. Maybe we can send all our excess migrants there. Win-win-win.

The border will be issue 1 if the GOP has the stones to campaign on it.

The Cubs win again?? I wept with joy when they won the pennant. Over the moon when they won the series. Hoping you're right on this one.

Michigan won’t get past ‘Bama. Give Nick Saban a month to prep for an opponent and he’d beat the ‘72 Dolphins. Harbaugh leaves for the NFL and the Wolverines end up on probation. Other than that, these are great!

Expand full comment

That is a possibility. Can the Bama QB withstand the pressure of the Michigan D? I think the Big 10 plays worse O than the SEC, but probably better D. Can Michigan run the ball against Bama? If they can't, it is going to be up to the QB to complete some passes...

Chicago has a problem in August when the police don’t stop any of the protesters at the convention

Expand full comment

I think the Dem convention in steamy August with the Chicago youts mixed in with lefty professional agitators is going to be looked at in retrospect as a historical catastrophe. The cops are just going stand by and watch.

The large middle of the electorate who does not follow politics will be aghast at actions of the crazy left, enough to not vote for any Dem.

PS: There's a filmed documentary about Tom Wolfe, "Radical Wolfe," floating around on streaming platforms, with the DVD available from Kino Lorber (a DVD producer/vendor). Just released in December '23. Recommended if you know his work--and even if you don't.

My experience with predictions is that they are often premature--not wrong, just early. Things foreseen usually take longer to play out--which leaves more room for uncertainty to raise its head. Meaning--be light on your feet and responsive to change, don't carve the prediction in granite.

The 51 all look pretty reasonable from my vantage point, so the risk question is what throws a wrench in the gears? Time will tell.

Happy New Year to all. Here's looking forward to '24.
