Fair piece. I've met the Sheriff a couple of times. He's was professional and cordial. Coincidentally, he and I have a close mutual friend. That said, Dart's made some unusual political choices, some bold & some meh. I would like to hear specifically about whether he knows about this seemingly outrageous incarceration-- yes or no? If no, why not & more importantly, will it be addressed?

Never met him. He isn't an innocent bystander. He's a part of the machine and he's carved out a niche for himself. If he wants to rise in the Machine, he's going to either have to get Preckwinkle's blessing, or face some sharp elbows.

I stand by my previous comments about the long-standing proven accusations of bribery in the Sheriff's Department and it does not take a genius to figure out how to bribe somebody without a written trail of accountability. Granted, it had existed for more than a half century and probably a century before Tom Dart ever took over.

The bottom line is the gentleman you wrote about is being mistreated and it needs to be addressed.

Steve is being tortured. I don't disagree or agree with the bribery charges, but had enough people privately contact me that did disagree so in the interest of fairness (and I am not a journalist so I didn't go knock on doors) it's worth it to print a rebuttal.

The media will only cover Democrat corruption when it is safe to do so. Meaning they have nothing to lose. Example- Sharp as a Tack Joe Biden now is a vegetable. Nothing to lose. If you operate outside the system and are not a favored constituency then you must avoid conflict at all costs. You will never receive fair, just treatment.
