Great observations Mr Carter! I'm cautiously optimistic about the future of our country. I knew in my heart that Trump would win, but I still did everything I could to facilitate that outcome! I don't trust hardly any large organizations, especially those organized around some form of government. What did the wise Hong Kong citizen say? "Don't trust China! China is asshole!" So it's incumbent on us to start the generational push back to restore the liberties we have neglected for too many years. "Too busy" doesn't work anymore.

Why rely on the government to provide data? That's a stretch. The public sector and market will always be more reliable. How reliable have federally reported jobs numbers been this year? How about how the feds changed the definition of a recession?

fair point

Private companies seldom wish to divulge data that might compromise business advantage, something government can require with appropriate control and access to the result. This is obviously true only when the government can be trusted, which requires competent oversight resistant to corruption of any kind.

There's a debate out there - revelation versus reason. Many of the somewhat educated have abandoned all church, replaced that hole w/the 'great god government'. Reason has its place, subordinate to something much bigger. In the meantime, government and its believers grow like any cancer.

abandoned the church because (fill in the blank excuse) and they are smart, so they don't need faith. the problem with religion is it has standards to live up to and there is NO control. You have to rely on your faith.

Kant, starry heavens and moral law within. Standards do not come from religious dogma, but from millennia of civilizing experience. On the contrary, religion teaches submission and control, and collectivism. [yes, I am NOT a conservative: I'm a Right Libertarian].

In many cases the church has been captured by liberals and the govt. Which drives the faithful away.

Certainly true. But also, don’t spurn allies who happen to be atheist or agnostic. There are many paths to conservatism.

Much talk these days about 'authoritarianism', less about 'totalitarianism'. My college political science professor explained the difference as basically: The authoritarian wants to maintain tight control of the government, those outside the ruling circle are not invited or allowed to participate. But if you avoid political activity, you'll probably be left along. Whereas the totalitarian wishes to reengineer the entire society as he thinks best.

I think much of the Democrat side has moved beyond authoritarianism and into outright totalitarianism.

Agree, and it started with Obama. He is a totalitarian.

He is an empty suit - was at the time of nomination, thru his 8yrs, and remain now. It is who controls him who are totalitarian maoists.

or, as Kunstler puts it, 'shadowy league of not-quite-geniuses who run the twilight White House operation"

Some of this earlier with Wilson, who was definitely an authoritarian (he was opposed to the whole idea of the separation of powers). but reached a new level (for the US, at least) under Obama's watch.

I stopped reading at the point where you referred to your friend as "they". Really getting sick and tired of conservatives buying into this pronoun bullshit.

Expand full comment

meh, maybe I didn't want to "out" a friend. Has nothing to do with pronouns.

"He" or "she" is still anonymous - each are in billions (trillions?) while "they" are sticking out as a sore [genderless] thumb

DOGE needs to focus initially, and relentlessly, on doing what it can to reduce the power of government without the need for legislation. Given the overturn of the Chevron doctrine, the regulatory state is a great target for this. Vivek Ramaswamy has a specific strategy to abolish regulations that the SCOTUS Loper ruling makes invalid, and I wish him well.

Yep, the '100 year march through the institutions' is here(by the Left) and we are but two years into Newtons 3rd law. The good news is the traditional media is dead and all of my friends who trusted them for decades are now into podcasts; podcasts from leftists are dead due to transparency.

Bureaucrats know their time is done and are scrambling; I live in a community of 8,000 40 miles from the Twin Shitties and the county employees are finally understanding the fallacies of their bosses(boomers). A significant shift is happening - we are a small sample of the Fruited Plain.

Great words, Jeff. Appreciate it.

Great piece Jeff. The Andreesen interview is eye opening to say the least. Another thing I took away from it is that NGOs must not receive any funding from the government. They are being used to subvert the constitutional constraints on government.
