Whatever the percentage of the ‘persuadables’ is, we need to reach them as best we can. Time’s awastin’!
I’m afraid it might be a smaller group than we hope. The Establishment’s coalition of the corrupt and the credulous will always be around; we just have to minimize their influence as much as possible.
It’s going to be tough — but moving away from corruption and socialism is mandatory.
the same; ask all the "conscripts" that were just rounded up by Putin in Russia. Convenient that the oligarchs who have sons who live in London are unaffected.
Great article. I reckon maybe 10 0r 15 percent of democrat folks can come around. Amongst regular people anyway. The power brokers however not so much. They are actually un-American subversives . . or in the sway of such. These are people who for 50 years have exercised their long march thru the institutions, or the progeny of such. Their goal is totalitarianism and they'll never give it up.
It is hard to find out how deeply corrupt our nation has become. Agendas were pushed to fundamentally alter the country we love and now, we hope for a return to the vision of our wise forefathers.
Dems will be Dems, but the backstabbing from supposedly your own side is more dangerous, as it corrodes morale. They've got the mandate, but will they use it as intended by the givers?
Great post Mr Carter! I hope your voice is heeded by any of your friends who are fence sitters or "just want to be left alone". That's pretty much the de-facto stance of most conservatives but we can no longer ignore the "data" and the threat it represents! I've seen a lot of formerly disinterested friends wake up in these last four years and to them I say "Welcome to the party!" Great observations and thanks for giving a c**p and being in the fight!
Great history of the jump to electronic trading! Thanks, Jeff!
The efforts of Govt control started when the Cold War began in the late 1940s, whenever Operation Mockingbird began (totally contravening the Smith-Mundt Act of 1948, I might add). Ike only saw two legs of that stool when he described the “Complex”. I believe we’ll be learning quite a bit more of that history in the coming months, provided the “festivities” of Jan. 20 and beyond don’t get too out of control.
That must have been a fascinating and maybe perilous time to be a member at the merc, a quick search of Amazon didn’t yield any good written accounts of how the exchange navigated the globex rollout and the IPO. Any suggestions?
I think only Leo Melamed wrote about it but as much as I respect Leo (and I respect him immensely) he did not lead this particular fight. Don, Bill and Joel were the ringleaders. Jack and Joel hated each other openly. Not even collegial. Jack preferred me on the board to Joel and his faction voted for me. To his credit, Jack changed once he saw it was over. The person that probably persuaded him to change was Jimmy Oliff. While we led a charge, without Jimmy we do not get consensus and almost 100% support from the membership.
👍👍Excellent example of overcoming your preconceptions, keeping an open mind, and weighing the evidence. Hope that a lot more people will attempt to do that with regard to our politics, cultural issues and personal relationships. Rational discussion is preferable to cancel culture and resign to consider that others might have valid viewpoints. Lot of interesting posts and information available on Substack for those willing to get outside their echo chamber.
Jeff, I'm digesting the latest announcement from the CME board. Am I wrong to think it would be better to use the 3 billion to retire debt rather than buy back shares. Is there some reason to maintain that debt on the books?
If in the next two years 2/3 of what is planned can be carried out by this administration, then the midterms will be a bloodbath, an absolute slaughter, of the Democrats and the far left. Even the media will be forced to sit up and take notice and recently, maybe 5%, at times 10%, have started to come around on a few issues.
Most Democrats seemingly are unaware that newspapers have lost much of their relevance. When a guy like Jeff Bezos can excoriate his own staff of his own asset, The Washington Post, and tell them they have lost credibility and need to start telling the truth, that was a great moment.
Great piece, Jeff, and I agree wholeheartedly: 'republicans' like the Turtle make their money from his wife's side of the equation - Asian shipping and shipbuilding(The Foremost Group) and IDG Captial, while the rest of us try to 'compete' with China while they manipulate their currency. The grifters are against us and they prove it every election by purposely withholding millions in Senate PAC funds from Trumpers - business folks who are beholden to market forces which do not lie.
What an excellent post, Jeff.

"Except, in this fight, they won’t be left alone and they will have to pick a side."
Reminds me of: "You may not be interested in war, but war is interested in you."

It is deeply corrupt and we are going to find out it is not just the Democrats.
How true. Just now I read that a GOP subcommittee signed on the "vaccine" lies

It's the Uniparty and Deep State which causes the friction inhibiting change.
