The Air Force Academy and the United States Naval Academy, and probably West Point, the Coast Guard Academy and the Merchant Marine Academy have lost their way. As has our United States military under SecDef LLoyd Austin. The Chinese and the Russians are laughing at us.
Our military (I too am a veteran. USArmy 1979-1985.) is fast becoming woke, no thanks to weaklings like Mark Milley and Lloyd Austin. Say, why do they still have their jobs? They prove that you can fail up.
Woke is based on the idiotic premise that perceived oppression and victimhood are inherently virtuous features of a person. These lead to glorification of fragility. I’m reading a really good book right now called “Anti-fragility” which takes the concept of resilience a step further, suggesting that we need not only be able to endure adversity, but be able to benefit from it.
I just saw an interview with Victor Davis Hanson on Sky News Australia where he said that some of the success of the outnumbered Ukrainians can be attributed to them having adopted a Western mindset in their battlefield approach, whereby the small groups in the field are resilient (aka non-brittle) and quick to change tactics, as opposed to the centralized Russian approach, where all decisions are top down and slow. You would think that our military academies would try to promote a resilient mindset.
