Reverse snowbirding! Sometimes we think about living in Arizona during the cold and decamping north to Idaho and/or Wisconsin for the summer. We’re not quite retirement ready though…
Upstate NY one winter many moons ago my oldest brother got two deer (both at night). Made his driving a bit skittish. Don't think he's hit one since--and there are a lot more deer around as there are fewer hunters.
A few years back I decided to pick up some Chinese takeout for dinner. A deer interrupted my trip home. I told my wife to enjoy this meal as it would be the most expensive one we will ever have...but I haven't run into any deer lately.
Darn deer. Good to hear you're OK. Aren't deer the third or fourth most dangerous animal because of the accidents they cause? And welcome back when you get here.
Love the "Fascist City by the lake..." and you are lucky there wasn't more damage from the deer. How many points? I grew up off of I-70 in southern Illinois, near St. Louis and some friends were killed when a 1.5 ton hog entered the highway in front of their car... and the hog lived.
Went to Vegas twice in high school to play in the John Ferrell, when that was the biggest summer tourney going. Nothing like Vegas in August. I always wondered why it was there, but the college coaches probably loved being able to golf somewhat and gamble. Saw Dean Smith lighting up on cig while another was finishing and saw Bobby Knight chew out his son Pat's summer team coach in a barrage of profanity that I am not sure has yet left the atmosphere and or been completely deciphered yet by the CIA.
Deer are the rodents of the larger animal world. Now, up where I grew up in Spokane, near the Idaho panhandle we have the elephants of the animal world, Moose, of which my mother almost hit one when I was younger. We also have these things that are not endangered, sorry Greenpeace, Sierra Club et al called grizzlies which over the last 30 years have become so numerous they are now found in the panhandle a lot and even into the Northeastern section of Washington.
Good thing there is A/C in Las Vegas! Sounds like a great tourney. I think it would be hard to coach Bobby's son.....given that the dad is one of the greatest coaches ever.....my dad was a coach...I know about getting a tongue lashing....my JC coach was more John Wooden like...never swore.
I try to avoid the city at all costs but if the blog meetup could be N or NW suburban and I’m not previously committed I’d love to join. Even W suburban would do. Meier’s in Glenview? Someplace in Long Grove?
ha. I have done some research on those. I read they don't do anything at high speeds....but work at low speed. I was doing 70 uphill.....Saw one recommended on Reddit but it's $1500
Glad you're ok! Those damn deer are a pestilence across the country.

5-7,000$
I think that's a good guess
Safe travels Mr Carter! I'll go the first round when you're in Chicago! Cheers!

Where? My intuition from the photo says around copper mountain/vail pass... but you'd be heading the wrong direction...
East Vail.

That $500 deer catcher on the front of your truck doesn't seem all that expensive at all right about now does it?
