Yes, you are supposed to enjoy the journey, admit it, you'd be snot-nosed bored without all of the drama. Good luck with (and do enjoy) the move : ) The house looks great, almost there!
This one wore us out. The cabins were a labor of love. The apartment was a dump when we bought it. We rehabbed it intending on having a pied a terre. Francis Parker bought it, so that gave us the opportunity to vamoose. We bought this house due to the view, knowing it needed a gut rehab. Funny thing, one time we walked around our neighborhood and counted 19 dumpsters. Rehabs in Vegas are slowing a bit because it takes so damn long to get a permit, and the costs skyrocketed with inflation. Labor and materials. Will be interesting to see what happens with a .50 basis point hike. At the same time, California is still totally screwed up, the people that live there know they are screwed, and they are fleeing. Phoenix and Las Vegas are the biggest landing points. I was happy to see Gavin Newsom not recalled. Kept my home value higher.
My snot-nosed comment was a play on covid. LOL. I hear you, shit, I'm moving a few walls and the mayhem of crews coming and going is hard, I cannot imagine what you're going though. The view looks great, post some pics when it's done! CA is a big state, but the prosperous zones have the weather, universities and jobs. And gobs of tech money. It's really not that bad especially if you've owned real estate. For every family that moves, it's probably a good thing as it takes a little heat off of the housing market. Keep the posts loaded with sanity coming!
University of Chicago has always prided itself on the clash of ideas and rigor. There are diverging opinions intentionally on the faculty. They also pride themselves on original sources and data. I was glad to see the student led effort to overturn opinion based decisions into data driven decisions.
Are those really Ikea wine racks? Not bad looking.
And yes, rehabbing is hell. We did a gut rehab on a 4-square in Chicago in 2005-6 so we feel your pain. In the end it was worth it, but the journey is hell.
They are not IKEA but Wine Racks of America. I don't invest a ton in the racking system and I don't put a finish on them. The couple of wine cellars I have built in houses weren't for ego or show. Wine just goes in there and sleeps. The last one I built at 1613 Fairway Circle in Geneva, IL was in the basement. A 4x8 insulated box with cube wine storage. In this one, we took an old pantry and part of a closet and converted it. It has a separate cooling unit that runs outside. Insulated locked door and no one will even know it is there.
Thanks. We don't have the showroom storage either, just the basics. Got ours mostly at World Market and they just look like a smaller version of yours. But they are effective for the purpose.
HGTV calling for Jeff Carter, "We would like to give you your own show called 'Renovating Hell during COVID on a Tight Budget.'"
Well played.

My Mayo doctor said, "no more demolitions", so I am out.
