Plenty of posts that you read will get into the history of America or try and make you feel guilty as you barbeque during Independence Day.
I am not going to do that.
Lefties are always about guilt or constraints. America is about choice and abundance. Our underlying culture is diametrically opposed to what they believe. That’s why their ideas never work.
I think on Independence Day you should follow the direction of John Adams. Independence Day was a day of hope. Hope springs eternal. Ask a Cubs fan.
The Second Day of July 1776, will be the most memorable Epocha, in the History of America.—I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated, by succeeding Generations, as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance by solemn Acts of Devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with Pomp and Parade, with Shews, Games, Sports, Guns, Bells, Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forever more.
Adams was correct. I honestly don’t think any of the founders would be surprised to see the results of what they created today. America isn’t done yet. Not by a long shot. The next century will be greater than the last or the one before that. America has network effects that continue to build upon itself.
Sometimes we screw up. But, we bounce back. America is resilient.
It is not a stretch to say that the America Adams and his fellow travelers created is the greatest country ever. No country has contributed more to the human race or raised standards of living worldwide faster than America. It’s because the Founders embraced a unique form of government with checks and balances that used the principles of transparent law, and capitalism.
They weren’t Gods. They were men. They were just like you and me. They made mistakes and had emotions and intellect, just like you and I.
Those signees to the Declaration of Independence took a huge risk. They weren’t poor and uneducated. They were the pillars of society. They chose to do it in the hope of creating a better life and country. They were willing to fight, and die, for it.
Don’t turn on the television today. They all want to bring you down. They choose to be sad and put shackles upon themselves. Today is a day to celebrate. Be happy, not guilty. You live in the greatest country, with the most magnificent opportunity no matter who you happen to be. No limits, except for the ones you put on yourself.
There are just so many actual real-life stories of people in America from all walks of life that earned success here. They keep happening and are happening today. They aren’t just passages in history books. They will happen tomorrow too. The facts fly in the face of what the Lefties believe and spew.
Maybe you were lucky to be born here like me or maybe you were lucky to immigrate here like a lot of friends of mine. Immigrants made a choice. I always tell people from other places that want to make America like their home country there were really good reasons why the original Americans left. People continue to leave today.
Those first and early immigrants came here with nothing but hope. They took massive risks to come here and that is integral to our culture today. They chose to come. No government benefits. No promise of success. They gutted it out.
In the 1700s, the spirit of individual liberty was spreading across the world. The US got it right. France did not. England did a better job than continental Europe. But, the US is still the best all around. We see the after-effects of that today.
Hopefully tomorrow I will get on my pontoon boat and parade around our little lake with all of my neighbors here in northern Minnesota with the American flag flying on the stern. What an awesome country we live in with lots and lots of awesome people. I hope you have a great 4th of July with whomever and wherever you choose to spend it. But, celebrate it with some pomp and circumstance. Make John Adams happy.
Thank you for a very positive Independence Day message. It was nice to read.
Not to take the luster off of it, but I now wonder what Leftists think on this day. It used to be that just about everyone celebrated this day. I know that Leftists don't like to celebrate it, or they are agnostic at best. It reveals everything about them, and how myopic they are.
On the 4th I get gaudy, with as much Red, White and Blue as I can display and wear. I want Leftists to see it, and to know that their vision is a failure. More importantly, I want my family to carry this tradition forward, and to experience the joy of celebrating. We do so much commiserating what Leftists have done to our culture and country, that it's time to celebrate and be optimistic.
Happy 4th to all of you.
Tomorrow will be my 31st Independence Day, I plan to celebrate with aforementioned color palette and sincere thanks to the Founders if not with pomp and guns: I live in NY, drop a tear for me...
Happy 4th!
