"do to the fact demand outstripped supply and we didn’t have enough refining capacity or storage ..." I don't mean to sound pedantic, but "due to" would have been correct here. And I seem to remember that the "energy crisis" in the 1970s was because of the formation of OPEC, which limited oil shipments, and which in turn had something to do with Israel.

Thanks for the edit! Sure, OPEC had an affect but if we were really exploring and going after energy in the US, it would have been less of an effect. Remember the "windfall profit tax" bullshit? I can't wait for Gavin Newsom to enact it in the State of California. But, the sheep there will still worship him because he is saving the planet or something

True I was working on a project at university in Madison wi the epicenter for stem cell research in 2006 huge government grant was awarded to UCLA ZERO FOR MADISON

Natural gas and electric utilities have the greatest put option in history. All their expenses for fuel are reimbursed by the ratepayers. Ratepayers should not bear the volatility of fuel purchasing.
