Great stuff as always. Truly inspired writing and wisdom. Bravo and well played!
As the son of a WWII veteran -- both my father and my mother served -- I am forever linked to what they did for the world and the Nation. It was the central thread of the family tapestry and inspired me to serve.
Too soon we forget.
At the end of the war, Gen Eisenhower mandated that American officers visit the concentration camps so their horror could never be denied. He was brilliantly prescient given current events.
My father, who was closemouthed about his service until I was in the Army myself, described the absolute evil of the place he visited. When I visited several concentration camps when on active duty in Germany, I had the same experience -- revolting evil.
That generation was hard men who dropped their civilian endeavors and picked up rifles and did what had to be done -- kill the enemies of freedom.
That is the task of the current generation of leaders as there is no negotiating with evil. Our current leadership is so weak and so lacking in grit and character -- including the military -- I wonder if we can understand and embrace what needs to be done.
Great comment, thank you! I did not know about Eisenhower mandating officers visit the camps. Truly prescient, as if they knew it would eventually be denied or forgotten.
Eisenhower is the most under rated President of our time. Liberals love him for one comment, "the military industrial complex". But, if they really researched what Eisenhower was about, they'd hate his guts.
His work with the Monuments Men is yet one more example of how deep a person he was.
At a time when Kruschev was agitating. I don't think Stevenson would have been able to-he would have taken the bait----> and did during the Kennedy Administration
I don't like to repeat myself but, thanks again for saying clearly what I am sure many of us are feeling.
Our government has become a tyranny. It has happened like the frog gets boiled, slowly so most don't realize it until it is too late to escape. It's important to note that this applies to all levels of government, not just the feds. Seems like most people don't care enough to stand up to this, or don't know how to push back. I know that I feel that way often. I do try to make my voice heard at a local and state level, and I vote, but often it seems futile. I "console" myself with the thought that I am getting older and the decay will be slow until I am gone, but that makes me feel guilty for my son. What are we to do? For me the ultimate comfort is in my Christian faith.
Absolutely. I've been and it was amazing. Don't go to New Orleans to booze it up and party in the streets. Go to have a serious consideration of American and World history.
My son and I took a trip to see the Gulf of Mexico (from MN) and to the WW II museum for his high school graduation present after reading about in your previous posts. It was a great experience and hope to visit again to see this new display. Thanks for sharing and helping bring this to fruition.
No, thank you for volunteering. The people that volunteer at the museum are amazing people. The staff is top notch. They are caretakers that make the museum come alive for people.
Everything you write here is true. And the part at the end about our own government and the loss of liberty is also true, but I don't think folks realize what the Left has in store for us when they finish consolidating their power after stealing the 24 elections. A cursory review of 20th Century history will give you a pretty clear map of what is coming. When the Left truly takes power, as they are in the process of doing here, they NEVER relinquish it peaceably. NEVER!!!
Let's do a quick review of where we are right now. The Left has captured the courts, the IC (CIA, DIA, etc.), the federal police force (FBI), the entire administrative state and most of the police forces in our largest cities and those courts and DA's. What am I missing? Oh, totally open borders with MILLIONS of military age males pouring into our country completely unmonitored. I am sure there is more, but I think you get the idea.
Unless the Left feels guilty about cheating in 2020 and 2022 and decides to stop cheating on their own (which IS NOT GOING TO HAPPEN and why would they? I mean, they got away with it and have been completely successful in putting even DISCUSSING election integrity off the table for all but "nutty election deniers" and "conspiracy theorists" ) we aren't going to be able to vote our way out of this mess.
So, what happens. Well, I would recommend getting your family to a red state or a red county (read, one with a strongly constitutional sheriff) and create or become a part of a community of like minded folks. Because, until some red state governor starts jailing federal agents operating within the borders of that state, nothing is going to stop them.
Before I will finish this light hearted, upbeat comment, I would highly recommend that you take a look at this 37 minute video https://youtu.be/QUjjgVq29V0?si=34xvods5MebKJTAQ of Col. Douglas McGregor being interviewed by Dr. Stave Turley. Col. McGregor has appeared on Tucker Carlson a few times and he was the only military "expert" who was telling the truth about what was going on in Ukraine and he, AFAIK, was the only one who correctly predicted how it would end. Anyway, in this video he talks about what could, and most likely will, go wrong in the Middle East.
I lied, the real last thing I want to add is what do you think will happen to our standard of living when the dollar is no longer the only currency that is accepted for the trade of oil and gas. Oh, wait, that has already happened. See BRICS. If you haven't read "The Bitcoin Standard" get yourself a copy and read at least the first half of this book. The first half of this book is one of the most interesting, unable to put down, reads I have ever read (I read around 50 books a year) and it ISN'T ABOUT BITCOIN!!! It is about the history of money, stores of value, coins, and INFLATION!!! And what happens EVERY SINGLE TIME IN EVERY SINGLE NATION OR CULTURE that has decided to inflate their way out of a huge national debt.
Hint: it ain't pretty. It includes lots of violence, hunger, chaos and the complete breakdown of civility. Remember, after reading my little note of doom, that civilization is only 9 meals away from riots and chaos and complete societal breakdown.
Great post Mr Carter! My father was a WWII crew member in the 100th Bomb Group of the 8th Air Force flying out of England. He was in every major air action in the European theatre. His squadron was nicknamed the "Bloody Hundredth" because over the course of the war they had a 98% casualty rate! There's a book and a couple movies loosely based on their service and sacrifice. He was home after V-E Day and would have headed to the Pacific if Truman hadn't crushed the Japanese resolve. Can't imagine my Dad's luck could have held out for another tour. And I wouldn't be the 5th of his and mom's 7 children!! We don't teach any of this in schools anymore and the museum should be required attendance for anyone who wants to be a citizen! We don't necessarily deserve their sacrifice but me and mine are going to do our best to live the life they showed us!
I've looked around the link you shared for the holocaust museum before. But looking over it today, It hit on deeper levels.
I now sort of wonder why we even let Germany rebuild? Instead of just nuking that evil society out of existence. What they did is impossible to comprehend. I believe in God, but almost wonder if he blew it by giving humans free choice.
The flip side is what France did to them at the end of WW1, which contributed to starting WW2. We also had to deal with Russia at the time. They set up their Iron Curtain after the war.

Balanced 8 budgets, deported 3MM illegals. Kept us out of war.

Yup, there are no angels in the bureaucracy.
Let them explain that to St. Peter when he redirects them to the Hell they deserve.
I will leave that to the Holy Father to decide.

I hope you do too! There is a new pavilion to challenge you.

There is a reason that museum exists, and I think you nailed it. We must never forget. As a 13-year volunteer at the museum, thank you.
No, thank you for volunteering. The people that volunteer at the museum are amazing people. The staff is top notch. They are caretakers that make the museum come alive for people.
And THIS is why our Founders insisted on a 2nd-Amendment.
Can't have the first without the second

Not sure if McGregor is actually correct or not. I am VERY torn on Ukraine.

They were terribly unlucky and crazy. Don Miller's book Masters of the Air specifically wrote about your father's unit
