For some reason, I was not shocked that South Carolina Senator Lindsay Graham introduced an abortion bill. Democrats seized on it. Fortunately, Cocaine Mitch told Lindsay to go to his room.
Virtually almost every tweet I see from a Democrat is about abortion. It’s their only issue given the massacre in the stock market and the total ineptness of Biden on every single thing they touch.
Here is my take on Graham.
He has a tremendous ego and feels like if he isn’t on the Sunday shows or in the news he has to create stuff to get him on the shows or news.
He doesn’t want to be in the majority. That means he has to lead and Graham is no leader. He doesn’t want to be accountable. He’d rather be a backbencher backbiter.
Graham is solidly in GOPe. He shed his snakeskin right before his last election in order to avoid a primary fight and get re-elected but he’s comfortably in his new establishment skin working for himself and not the American people or even the people of South Carolina.
Senators like Graham, the deceased John McCain, the deceased Arlen Spector, John Cornyn, and Mitt Romney put themselves ahead of everything else. Often, it doesn’t have to do with money, just their egos. I hope history books are not kind to them.
I have met Graham a few times. A person close to me met him and calls him a “little fucker”. They saw right through him.
There are a few simple facts about abortion and everyone knows it. If Democrats really cared about it, they would have done something when they had the majority and they whiffed. Worse, they ignored it and just tried to raise money on it.
Republicans that were pro-life did the same and now the Supreme Court decision puts them on the spot. Before, there were zero consequences for them. Now, they have to lead.
However, the fantastic thing about the SCOTUS decision was it turned it over to people like you and me in the several states. We get a voice. We get to decide. Every state will do it the way they want. We will see some extreme stuff on each side but I suspect over time the states will moderate and settle somewhere in the middle where most of the American public is.
Besides, the whole debate about abortion is dumb. We ought to be talking about why people are making the choices they are making rather than the act itself. Why do some teens in some areas of the country feel so hopeless that they want to have a baby out of wedlock? Why are they making the choices in their life that they are making? Those are serious discussions that don’t lend themselves to soundbite tweets or political ads and they are tough discussions because they uncover issues that are not solved by a government.
In my home state of Nevada, the Democrats are just totally lying about abortion. Senator Cortez Mastio (Socialist Democrat) tweets all the time about it. Her challenger, Laxalt, has said it’s up to the voters of Nevada although he himself is pro-life. She’s bungled her entire term and been on the wrong side of every issue and if the media here played it straight she’d be down 10 points.
We had a local Democratic official closely tied to the sitting governor murder an investigative reporter. The official is in jail, but is still collecting his pay and still has his job. The media questioned our Republican governor candidate about if he condemned Trump of all people following the murder! It’s preposterous.
I look at the Pennsylvania Senate race and there really is no choice. If you are a Democrat in PA, you should be embarrassed that he is the candidate. You ought to vote Republican just to discipline your political party’s centralized smoke filled backroom masters. Dr. Oz won the primary due to Trump’s support. He certainly isn’t the prototype candidate but when you look at who is on the other side you just shake your head. That guy couldn’t spell the word cat if you spotted him the c and the a.
In other states like Wisconsin and Georgia, the choice is stark. Elect a communist or the Republican and no I am not overstating the bona fides of the Democrat in each race. In America, you can never ever support a communist/socialist. Never.
It’s too bad that Lindsay didn’t retire the last cycle and take a bunch of board seats. That is his destiny along with a cushy lobbying job that will pay him a million a year or so. He will never live full-time in South Carolina again. No doubt, Tom Daschle is calling him. Maybe we will get lucky and he will resign his position.
For what it’s worth, I am pro-life. It’s killing a baby. No human has had anything except a human. I don’t care if it’s a “clump of cells” or not. It’s human and it is a unique life and if you undertake an abortion, you are killing it.
At the same time, I am not sure I am willing to start a civil war over it. There are certainly reasons to have it. For example, if the health of the mom is in danger or the fetus won’t be viable when it’s born, an abortion makes sense if the parents want to do it. Rape and incest also are on the table.
Abortion should be limited, ideally at 15 weeks. Pro-life people like me don’t like that, and pro-choice people don’t like that either but the alternative would totally tick one side off or the other and we’d go to war over it.
Ironically, if the Supreme Court would have ruled correctly back in 1973, there would have been no national pro/life/choice movement. It would have been confined to the states where it should have been.
People like Lindsay Graham wouldn’t have a platform and maybe we wouldn’t have to deal with them.
Let’s hope Republicans get their act together, message correctly and be really clear about what they intend to do besides being obstructionist. If they do that, they might get to 55+ Senators and be a big majority in the House.
I'm daily in shock that Fetter-woman, as he called himself recently, remains ahead of Oz in every major poll held in the state. I'm from Pa. The guy has been a failure his entire life and hasn't contributed anything to society at all. Ever. He has no track record to run on. Yet he leads in polls!! Mastriano, meanwhile, who's running for governor, should be beating Shapiro easily, but as you rightly noted, abortion has become an issue - a major distraction. So who cares that Philly already has had 1,000 car-jackings this year, 322 murders and 1,400 shootings (and they want to take our guns from us. Ha!) Eggs now cost 100 percent more than pre-Biden. Milk is +30 percent; beef is +60 percent, gasoline +61 percent. And instead of teaching kids algebra and geometry, they're teaching them transgenderism and the proper use of pronouns. Yet the right to kill unborn babies is more important to middle-aged white suburban women who can't have babies anymore. Riddle me that.
You're correct about Graham. He is a news hog. Also correct about Mandela Barnes in Wisconsin. If the Wisconsin media actually shined a light on his marxist-fascist-communist views Ron Johnson would be up by 10 points, but Johnson is in a tight race with Johnson up 49-47 over Barnes, which is within the margin for error. https://law.marquette.edu/poll/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/MLSP72ToplinesLV.html
