Now I have to throw out all this popcorn 🍿 I was truly looking forward to the Twitter Board attempting to substantiate their "woke" position by ignoring their fiduciary responsibilities... 😉

The fact that Megan is whining is a good sign ; ) There is much status to be gained by moving the chess pieces around like Musk is doing. To influence culture, to effectuate positive change, to possibly create massive value, and adding to your legacy all beat buying a bunch of mansions and farm land, Megan. Whatever happens, it's going to be fun to watch.

One of the original investors in Twitter, Fred Wilson, said he is against one person owning something as important as Twitter. I think if people with Fred's network, money, and power had a different vision than Elon, they should have put together a bid for the company and executed upon it.

Yep : ) I saw his post about filtering spam being a form of content moderation. Just stupid analysis. Whatever Elon does or doesn't do, the left echo chamber will poo poo all of it. Impeach Elon!

There will, yes, be pro's and con's to this. Musk is, maybe, a libertarian. He isn't conservative. But then, I lean more libertarian myself ....

I don't think this is quite the win for conservatives they think it is. But it's definitely a loss for the radical left. I'll take that. :)

As a Commie-hating 'conservatarian', my hope is that it could be more of a win for society as a whole, as opposed to a win for 'non-Leftists' per se. It could be both, I guess.

Oh, don't get my "libertarian" wrong, I despise socialism and communism. ;)

More of an Ayn Rand objectivist might be a better description of me!

Thanks. Did not know that. He used to make such a big deal at his conventions about how he was a paper boy and you could challenge him tossing the paper!

I think its not unreasonable to ask to pay for use of Twitter's service. How many people would be willing to pay, say $1/mo to be on there, and maybe $x/tweet, retweet, or higher fees for posting media, pics, videos, etc. I think commercializing it could be a very good thing and maybe improve the user experience because there is no real penalty right now for creating an anonymous account and just trolling and insulting people. Twitter is being used right now to put people at odds with eachother. Make people pay for the privilege, and you will end up with a lot less trolling and maybe a lot less strife. Create the conditions where Twitter could be used to bring people together. Maybe commercialization and fees could do that. If you're just a jerk that wants to sh*tpost and insult people, use other platforms.

But, how much revenue and influence do publications like the WSJ, FT, NYT, WaPo and other media companies receive and enjoy from being on the platform for free? Shouldn't they part with some of their consumer surplus and remit it to the shareholders of Twitter? What if they were charged a penny a clickthrough to their paywall? Would they pay it? Or, what if that action was tokenized somehow so the users of the platform could earn tokens based on their interactions with it? A part of the thesis in crypto is "proof of work".

Lots of good potential ideas. Could structure a fee schedule for different entities doing different kinds of business. For-profit media companies should be highest fees, I think. Maybe essential government services like police, fire, defense, etc. could be free. Most people would say educational institutions should be free as well, but I would actually defund all public education, so I say charge them.
