Matt Gaetz is an idiot when it comes to strategy. He plays one-dimensional chess in a four-dimensional world. As an old floor trader, the one thing I know is strategy. There are times to press your bets and there are times to ease off on the accelerator. Sometimes it’s best to get off the highway and do nothing, even if you have the power to do it.
Gaetz clearly doesn’t understand this. He’s dumb. He’s shown he puts himself, and his ego, ahead of the rest of the Republican caucus. Great leaders don’t do that. Of course, he hides behind a bunch of red-meat conservative talking points. Great leaders don’t do that either. They lead.
Here is the way I see reality. Feel free to disagree with me.
The President is Democratic and unable to carry out the job. He is surrounded by hard leftists put there by Obama.
The Senate is run by Chuck Schumer. There are enough Republicans to make things difficult if their caucus holds together, but they often don’t because of people like Romney, Cornyn, and Murkowski.
The House is almost Democratic. A thin line separates Republicans running it and Democrats are hungry to run it again. They think they can get it in 2024 due to gerrymandering and vote harvesting.
The political parties aren’t even close to being on the same page on major issues. There is a massive amount of distrust. There are no more blue dogs or common sense Democrats left. It is a hard left-wing party that caters to Marxists.
Given this environment, how much can McCarthy reasonably get done? Frankly, he has done some good. The investigation of Joe Biden goes ploddingly along. I listened to the Megyn Kelly podcast and you should too. She nails it. Biden is clearly guilty of using his office to change policy and getting paid to do it.
The Left has played the long game for a long time. The Students for a Democratic Society, the extreme radicals of the 1960s, found a home along with respect in academia. They worked the system.
Now, here we are.
We have a midsize part of the population that is truly dumb. They can’t add or subtract and they can’t read and write. That’s what SDS wanted and it works in their favor.
Government transfer payments and programs have expanded significantly since the war on poverty started in 1965. They blew up during Covid. Fewer taxpayers are shouldering the burden. That’s why we need to enact the Fair Tax.
The hard left uses every single issue to make advancements. The right does nothing. I am speaking to the Gaetz choir here, except back in 1975 the hard left was only making small gains. Sometimes they didn’t make a first down and had to punt.
The free market capitalist conservative movement has to make small gains. Sometimes they have to punt and in this case, Gaetz should have punted but privately sat down with McCarthy to explain himself.
When you are on a team in a war, you don’t publicly rock the boat.
I agree with a lot of the so-called radical Republicans. Spending is way too high. Government is way too big. The border is way too porous.
Instead of killing the Speaker, why not introduce a motion to impeach Mayorkas while meanwhile continuing to go after Biden. Why not censure and expel the Dem Rep who pulled the fire alarm? The Republicans had some momentum and it will be hard to get it back.
Gaetz was ticked at McCarthy for working with Dems to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government. Didn’t Gaetz just work with Dems to get rid of McCarthy?
Gotta play the long game not win short-term talking point battles. Plus, if you are going to lead, put your country ahead of yourself. Gaetz sent out fundraising emails to herald his triumph and sends them out all the time. I always try and unsubscribe but he sends them out with no way to do it. That’s illegal.
So dem solidarity is a given. Admirable, despite stalinist tactics. But try to get a squish RINO to man up and it lacks "nuance." Loser game.
And that's why to American people will rise and clean house.
PS: The longer that takes, the more brutal
8 Republicans... and 208 Democrats voted McCarthy out. 8 out of 221 House Republicans. If Gaetz thought this would build faith and actual progress in the fiscal responsible agenda, agree he missed the mark big time. Democrats support this chaos since what is to come will all be blamed on Republicans.
What is to come? IMHO, November 17 will come fast for the next potential government shutdown. Now with no House leader, nothing will get done, and the idea that a new House leader will be in post haste is wishful thinking.
Fitch has downgraded US Debt to AA+, S&P has downgraded to AA+. When Moodys follows suit with a downgrade from AAA to AA+, this will have a ripple effect of turmoil throughout the economy and markets. All this bearishness suggests a market rally in the short term (Why? Because that's how markets work, and some central bank manipulation) but beware of November. Things don't look pretty ahead...
