If you have watched the aftermath of the hurricane in the southeast, you can compare and contrast the capabilities of leaders.
So far if you are keeping score, any Democratic leader has been absent, or offered up all kinds of excuses for inaction. One Republican leader, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, has shown how to lead and has taken action.
One of the reasons for the intense flooding on the North Carolina side of the hurricane was the fact that years ago they decided not to have a series of dams built on the river. Let nature take it’s course. The environmentalists won the battle of the dams.
On the Tennessee side, the Tennessee Valley Authority built a series of dams. Those dams provide green power to the citizens of Tennessee. They also help control flooding when Mother Nature decides she is going to dump a lot of water in one place.
Hence, there is a big difference between what happened in North Carolina and what happened in Tennessee.
Don’t bug me with your global warming theories if you are that kind of person. Global warming had nothing to do with this. It’s mostly junk science anyway. Check out this thread on X for a real scientific explanation.
When the hurricane hit, Ron Desantis was ready. He sent trucks and supplies up through Georgia to help people in North Carolina. Meanwhile he was aiding and assisting people in his own state of Florida with hurricane clean up. Trump for his part visited northeastern Georgia as soon as it was safe to go.
Joe Biden was at the beach and Kamala? Kamala was getting a “briefing”.
Dunno, maybe they were on speakerphone? Blank papers too. Pens must have been out of ink but if they were government-issued pens probably not a surprise.
The Democratic NC governor couldn’t figure out how to get through the red tape to deliver aid to his own citizens. Or, maybe he was waiting on the Feds to give him the signal. The disgraced Republican Lt Governor figured it out and sent planeloads of stuff.
Today, Mayor Pete admonished helicopter and drone pilots for getting in the way and urged them not to fly. Of course, the only pilots that seem to be going there are news agency pilots taking videos of the carnage. Mayor Pete and the Department of Transportation are nowhere to be found. They must be working on high-speed rail while I-40 and I-26 are crumbling.
Secretary Mayorkas was predictably MIA. He stated FEMA, an agency he oversees, needs more money to handle the situation. That guy would screw up a one-car funeral. He is so incompetent.
Of course, Kamala Harris and Mayorkas spent $1B of FEMA money on illegal aliens. That fact should be particularly galling to anyone. It shows government money no matter where it is budgeted is fungible. It also shows where the priorities of people like Harris are. They aren’t with citizens of the US, but with illegals, they helped come in.
Remember, Democrats sent a $230,000,000 floating pier to Gaza, and it fell apart in seven days. Yesterday, Kamala said the government would give $750 to residents in the hurricane flood zone.
An aside, we spent $175 billion on Ukraine which works out to $4,166 per person. I realize it’s a war but it brings into focus how much money is going there. Reasonable people can debate if it is worth it or not. To me, it seems like it was an avoidable situation and the incompetence of the Democrats caused the war. It was their vision of foreign policy, not Putin’s bloodthirsty quest for more power. You should always be able to use the words Putin and bloodthirsty in a sentence because he isn’t a shining example of what the human species should aspire to.
Of course, it comes out that the color of your skin determines how fast FEMA is going to act now in an emergency since it has been infected with the DEI virus and the Marxist notion of “equity”.
But, it’s not just national and Southern Democrats. Look at what is happening in none other than Chicago, IL. The locals are incompetent too.
Mayor Brandon Johnson is a perfect case and point. Total incompetency.
Where is anyone holding them accountable?
I was reading a Financial Times article this morning from an election prognosticator. He stated he wasn’t going to prognosticate anymore which must mean he is wrong a lot. His excuse was that he always predicated his predictions on the “rational voter”.
That’s a fancy term borrowed from classical economists like Milton Friedman who postulated a “rational investor” for their theories. The author is attracted to the behavioral economists, and cites Nobel Prize winners Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman. It’s a fair point because they have come up with some compelling insights.
But, frankly, a large part of the field of behavioral economics is masquerading as economics when marketers would surely realize it’s just consumer behavior. Consumer behavior can be extremely unpredictable and fickle. That’s why instead of worrying about behavior and trying to control it with incentives, the best thing to do is worry about controlling the variability of supply. The tighter variance on supply and the more input made into creating an abundance of supply the better off everyone will be.
Behavioral economics often only works in a lab.
One simple example. Instead of taxing electricity, figuring out all kinds of ways to get people to restrict their electric use, why not just use technology to create a gigantic humongous supply of electricity? Then, let the market price it and give people the freedom to choose when they use it and how much they use.
An example of a behavioral change is what happened after we leased a Tesla. One thing we did with our Tesla was charge late at night when rates are low. During the day, when rates are high, we have solar power and are selling into the grid.
The problem is how the “rational voter” is defined. The FT prognosticator obviously isn’t assigning the correct characteristics to the rational voter, and is imputing his own biases of what he believes that voter should be. He’s not objective at all.
It’s very clear to many many Americans that government and institutions we used to rely on don’t have our best interests at heart, and they do not “work for citizens” anymore. They pursue their own interests, and are corrupted by the people at the top who are pursuing a far different agenda than what was originally intended by both government and private non-profit institutions.
Hence, they are indeed rational in voting against them.
I think Americans will be amazed at how competent the government can be if they vote the Democrats out. This assumes that Trump and the Republicans go full-on Argentina Mileil and cut the chaff out of government. Trump has asked Elon Musk to do it, and he said he would.
Musk eliminated 80% of the jobs at X and it’s better run and a better site. Musk rescued astronauts in space when big government couldn’t do it. Musk got the internet to Appalaichia and is saving lives post-hurricane, and the government can’t.
Seems like he knows how to execute. Clearly, Kamala and her political party cannot.
Interesting side note - remember Katrina? The press was all over Bush because of an inadequate job in New Orleans. Don't seem to hear anyone criticizing Biden/Harris on this one. Guess I'm not surprised.
Thanks for highlighting the feds' absolutely incompetent response to the devastation in western NC. The stories I'm reading are heartbreaking. The feds didn't activate troops from nearby Fort Bragg or further, Fort Campbell, both of which have hundreds of choppers ready to fly, until yesterday, six days after Helene hit the area. At the same time, feds and local authorities were restricting Good Samaritans who were flying their own choppers on their own dimes to search and rescue and drop food and water to those stranded. You want bigger government? You'll get it, good and hard. By the way, Samaritan's Purse is doing God's work in the area. They happen to be local.
