Chicago is on Detroit's flight path. Urban decay, crime and bankruptcy! I'm glad you're highlighting the choice/no choice of Illinois Uniparty politics Mr Carter! Keep up the good work and watch the rest of us plan our escape from Chi-Raq!
Biggest difference is Detroit was a one industry town--and the industry made really bad decisions combined with city/state/national govt. In Chicago's case, it's all government.
And now, thanks to weak republicans, Michigan is a one-party state. The decades of Republican largess to Detroit, accepting the racism charges and politely acquiescing to Detroit's demands (so D's would shout RACISM just a little quieter), all in stark relief to almost 50 years of Oakland County's anti-Detroit success, have ALL been dashed in less than a decade. Because of polite Romney-Republicanism.
How has getting along with marxist-democrats helped Michigan? Now with the repeal of Right to Work, MI's remaining residents can welcome 1975 back in with a bang!
Expect Cobo Center in Detroit to remain the election fixing hot-spot where all state wide races are decided. Republicans will further shrink from using the necessary language and tactics to win.
I agree. I had the misfortune of watching her spout that childlike ranting too. Very sad and disheartening. What's worse, it compelled me to make my 1st comment on twitter of my distain for her actions. Sorry, I gotta go take a shower now lol.
Remembering the days when my little patch of the world in the northwest suburbs was republican. First congressional vote back in 1988, my congressman was Phil Crane (those would be primarily drunk days on his part, from what i understand)
I have had a few Heiniken's with Mr. Crane....have a great story about that. It involves azalea's, Congressman Dan Frisa, Caddyshack quotes, Doug Stoffer and Joe Kellenyi, and Alphonse D'Amato talking about Hillary Clinton.
When you read the history of the futures exchanges (primarily the CBOT) you read the history of Chicago. Chicago exists because of the railroads, the exchanges, the stockyards and their synchronicity. 19th century you say. Well what part of Chicago exists today without them? 99% of the exchanges business comes from out of state you say. I say the exchanges are the beating heart of the city still and when they are gone you will see such a drop-off in all business activity it will become noticeable even in city hall.
Terry Duffy's (CEO of CME) wife was car-jacked two weeks ago in Chicago. The bell is tolling.
funny thing, without the CBOT, the railroads go somewhere else. That means, the stockyards are somewhere else because they were there due to the railroads.....people do not understand that it was really the CBOT that made Chicago and today, it's the futures exchange and options exchange that are the core economic lifeblood of the city. Lose that, lose the city for sure.
I don't think that there is a chance in heck that Villas clears the margin of fraud. The CTU will go to any length to get power in Chicago. So I'm on the side of faster. I thought NYC or LA would implode before Chicago. Now it is a three horse race.
Rahm couldn't fix it. Vallas isn't going to fix it. There are just too many constraints that can't be gotten rid of without an uncomfortable major upheaval. The only thing that can cause that upheaval is the banks saying 'no more!'. And they're too chicken. At some point Stein's Law will come into effect, but not yet.
Funny thing I learned from a munibond guy. Based on their investment memorandums, the munibond funds have to buy munibonds and cannot sit on the sidelines in cash. There aren't enough munibonds out there to satisfy their demand--->hence, places like Chicago, Illinois etc which are poorly run and poor risks always have a market to sell in to. If you are a fund manager, you take a slice at the high interest rate to juice your return while at the same time not overbuying where it becomes a huge part of your portfolio. That way, if they go belly-up they don't have a gigantic impact on the entire fund return.
I have commented here previously that Chicago is my favorite American city. I've never lived there, but over my lifetime I have spent so much time there- business and pleasure- that I feel like I know the city as if I had an address there. Or should I say...knew the city. I have not been there in 3 years now, by choice. I miss it. And I fear we may have seen the best of it. I hope not. I am planning a family meet up there- coming from both coasts and the south, in 2024. We plan on a big weekend in Chicago. For those in my family who have not been there before, they won't know how amazing it was. But I hope it will recover enough for this trip. I hope we can stroll Michigan Avenue and see full stores, not empty addresses. I hope it's safe to walk from one end to the other. I hope it's worth the trip. I hope we don't end up changing our minds before that date in 2024.
Your comments about "Vichy" R's is spot on. So many, way too many, R's either are part of the UniParty or they are totally naïve about the desire of the Left to burn this country down. All the way to the ground.
Example. Oklahoma's 4th CD is as blood red a district as any in the nation. Tom Cole, the R who is serving his 11th term, is routinely elected with nearly 70% of the vote. The district is CONSERVATIVE on steroids.
As chairman of the powerful House Appropriation committee he has vast influence in how budgets are allocated. Recently, FBI direct Christopher Wray was in front of the committee asking for more $$$ to go after more Jan. 6 folks. Cole told Wray that he would authorize ANY AMOUNT for the FBI to persecute Jan 6 people.
One wonders whether Cole is part of the UniParty or is simply uniformed about what is really going on. Either way, we are screwed as a nation with evil idiots leading us.
Great analysis. My gut is telling me Vallas, only because it seems like it's everyone against the CTU. If you look at the donations pie chart, it is staggering. Some $10MM+ going to Vallas from all parts of the city, mostly businesses and the elite. He's also got the police FOP endorsement and the common sense vote. He's got the mainstream Democrat vote, and that's enough.
Johnson's pie chart is 99% public union, with CTU spending millions. Millions of dollars from a union to a mayoral candidate? You know there is a hard plan behind that, and you know it's not for the benefit of anyone but themselves. I think people sense that, and that's why they are not going to pull the lever for Johnson. He is absolutely owned, and we are in an era where people like that do scary things and are brash about it. He is one of them, and that scares everyday liberals who understand that the city is not the same place it was four years ago.
That video of the Leftist from Nebraska is just how they all are, and it's how they've been for a few years now. She is not new, and there are millions of mentally ill people like this. Whether they are teachers, trans-activists (I repeat myself), Starbucks baristas or whatever -- they have been raised to be very angry and very militant. There is no shortage of things they hate, and because they are empowered online, they are showing us who's boss. She is AOC and the new breed of young, militant female with an ax to grind.
Brass knuckles indeed. I'm waiting for a lot of the national party to wake up and realize that.
This is a good analysis of the traditional facts on the ground. How much fraud do you think would be necessary on the part of the CTU and other leftist organizations for Johnson to overcome it. Look for at least that much.
I hear what you're saying, but CTU didn't want Lori, either. Their candidate was Preckwinkle, and she's the current Machine boss. So if they couldn't bring her to the finish line I don't think they have the fraud apparatus that many think. The problem is that you have other mainstream Democrats closely involved and watching. There aren't any easy ways to get fraud past them, so I think it's just a brawl to get your foot soldiers to harvest as many ballots as possible.
What's worse is for my family members Downstate who get hammered for the benefit of the Democrat Machine and don't even get the crumbs the South Side Dem voters get.
I'm watching from NW IN (where my wife's family moved to get away from Chicago, just to watch them drag part of it here), and I think it will take more than a 40% 'turnout' (that includes the dead vote) for Vallas to win. The union machines, at least, are making the absentee and early voting machines go Br-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-r-t

Damm, that senator Hunt from Omaha sure sounds like a Stalinist. What a freak show.

If you go to a Midwestern city, Kansas City is pretty nice. It's not Chicago but it is nice.
Evidently Hunt is spelled with a C.
It’s Obama’s world now. We’re just living it. The Chicago Way. The beatings will continue until morale improves, comrade.

I have a nephew-in-law (? Married to a niece) who 'works' for the GOP in Springfield. I think of him as a semi-well-paid Surrender Monkey.
