I've written a bit about NCAA womens' basketball: Wondering why Males Pretending to be Females have not flooded the zone:

hOOPS!

https://theotherclub.org/2021/12/hoops.html

Dominatricks

https://theotherclub.org/2021/12/dominatricks.html

Do no males recognize the scholarship possibilities in eliminating women from the ranks of womens' college basketball? It seems to be the highest potential reward NCAA sport for MPtbF. The WNBA couldn't resist.

Swimming? Meh. But NCAA let the camel's nose in there. The idea that MPtbF should be allowed to play against women is established.

How has NCAA avoided the destruction of womens' basketball?

Slightly off topic, I'm wondering how the LPGA has avoided the destruction of women's golf.

While I absolutey despise men who now identify as women playing in women's sports- the concept of title IX and the fact that the vast majority of women's sports lose a tremendous amount of money for a university and sadly, creates a world that is not necessarily in touch with the reality of over-all interest via the ticket buying public. Even programs like UConn per the NCAA's own stats at best break even. I love the ability of women to compete in different sports, but I also like there to be a modicum of reality attached to it. College's have all ready been struggling with the reality thing for the better part of 90 years, not keen on adding another layer of pretend. Only two sports that generate money, on the whole, with some outliers, are men's basketball and football. You have some college hockey teams, a few women's volleyball teams and some baseball teams. Outside of that everything else is bleeding red and depnding, often very badly with lots of it being lost in the income from Basketball and Football and shoe contracts.

"I think it is ironic that she plays for Iowa since the state of Iowa has a very long high school tradition of women’s basketball." Indeed. I still remember Machine Gun Molly Bolin in the 1970's.

I'll predict this, Jeff. When a pretty, straight, white, young woman from the Heartland becomes the face of the WNBA, reverse racism will reach a feverish pitch.

It will be interesting to see how much 'resistance' she faces in the WNBA.

It is a totally different game

Than men’s obvious even to a casual observer like me. That being said Caitlin is taking the women’s game up to it possibly highest

Level, for now. I love excellence, heart and grace. She’s got it all.

It's nice that you think that. Doesn't change the fact that women's basketball sucks. It does. It's not something I want to watch. The ratings reflect it. Let the market wash it.

Caitlyn is all-around darling! It's so wonderful to see a real woman knocking it out of the park versus some dude messing with woman's sports.

Scott, I don't think you understand the culture she is about to enter into. I have known several straight girls who played at the Division 1 level who had things done to them purposely, because they were straight, in some cases serious injuries, by the majority bull dyke teammates. Ugly, ugly stuff. The kind of stuff that should have gotten the program's shut down and the school sued. I know if stuff like this went on in the reverse on a men's team that is exactly what would happen. It is a cut out, women's sports, basketball in particular, for a certain sub-set of lifestyle choice people. Those teams also are a large part of what is a huge financial drag for 99% of universities who have Divsion 1 teams. The NCAA's own statistics bear this out- even when they count in donations tied to said teams.

I thought your comment was regarding the WNBA versus college? Once professional, one would think that black/white, sexual orientation wouldn't mean much these days. Aren't we all woke? Caitlyn is very high profile, team leader -- one would think that cheap shots on her would be met with aggressive opposition.

Scott, sadly it has not been that way for a very long time. I know stories going back to the mid-80's and forward. A buddy of mine who was a writer was going to have his article on UNCW women's team that involvled the bull dykes on the team holding down the only hetero girl and peeing on her after practice. Right before the editor was about to print it, suddenly, inexplicably, it was deep sixed. Another girl I knew who played at UC Santa Barbara had her knee taken out by a "moving" bench after practice, also hetero. Was a piece in out outkick the coverage talking about how ugly the WNBA and the NBA still are, and have been for a very, very long time. Had my own experiences as a white guy down at Santa Barbara Superstar Camp in 1989. Ms. Clark seems like a fantastic young lady, but I do fear for her. NBA also has issues, has since the mid-70's. Just along singular instead of the dual lines in the WNBA.

Bro, thanks for your take. But it's not 1985 anymore. She not only is the highest scorer in woman's NCAA basketball, she also broke the men's record too. She's in a league of her own and will get a big contract. She could probably play on a shitty NBA team and hold her own.

It's ridiculous to think that a star like this is going to held down and pissed on by bull dykes. And she'll have the bucks for body guards too, if needed. Some may hate that she's white and (allegedly) likes dick, but who cares anymore?

Scott, not sure what planet you are living on, but Caitlyn could not have played with any boys teams in 1985 at the college or even high school level. You don't seem to realize how much slower the women are playing, how much further below the rim they play and the fact that their ball is essentially a heavier volleyball. There are no back screen lobs for two hand reverse dunks in women's basketball. There are no dunk contests in women's basketball period. All for a good reason, their physical ceiling is much lower than men's and even the coach at UConn has on more than a few occasions fully admitted this. Geno said, and he is right, the rim should be lowered and the court shrunk. Women's basketball has an awful optics issues, sadly in more ways than one which is not good considering which gender buys the vast majority of the tickets to sporting events. Geno suggested a 9 foot hoop, then there would be more dunking, he is right. The reason women's soccer is so popular and does better from a ratings and actual paying ticket holders perspective is the optics. Yes, when the ball gets down by the net there are some obvious differences, but because of how far back the camera's are the size of the field and the speed of the game in general, it is not nearly as noticeable. You need to go back and watch that video of that 8th grade boy dunking. Really watch it, there is not a women ever, in the history of Women's basketball that could even begin to think about doing that. Here is the trick, there are a lot more out there just like him, even better and they all still have untapped potential. While the women's game has come a long, long ways from its start, where it can go has a much shorter range on it then the men.

The whole thing, just like the commentary of women’s college coaches passing Coach K are the wild fantasies of ESPN and the rest of the leftist sports media. The women’s game at the highest level is no better then good 8th grade boys basketball- as we witnessed with the women’s soccer USWNT that got destroyed by a singular U-15 boys soccer club, not even an all star team. No one looks good when such stupidity takes place. For reference here is a video of an 8th grade boy doing something no college or professional woman’s player could even dream of doing. https://youtube.com/shorts/KwZJ4Op2Eyc?si=6W4PambBwEyfFr7H

I, like you, don't watch much D1 men's basketball these days, for seemingly similar reasons. I ended up watching some of the women's Iowa game today. Obviously different game. As you note not comparable to mens' game on many dimensions. Still a good watch. On senior day kids celebrated and fans cheered. It makes one feel nostalgic for the mens' game when things were not completely nuts. Phil Mushnick is the guy who best documents today's sports craziness. The court storming stuff is dangerous and could be gotten rid of tomorrow.

I was lucky enough to attend the legendary Larry Bird and Indiana State (33-0) vs. Magic Johnson and Michigan State Final Four championship game in Salt Lake City because of DePaul making it that far. DePaul did an amazing job, too, considering they really only had 5 players that played 99% of the minutes to get there.

Penn was in that Final Four I think.....last time an Ivy mattered. DePaul needed a few more horses. Had them Aguirre's junior year but got upset.....What is incredible is Bird almost won that game single handedly.....The next summer, I was at Howard Garfinkel's Five Star camp and got to be buddies with a guy named Mike Donnelly. HIs brother was the starter on the MSU team. He wound up at the USAFA prep school and I went to USAFA...don't know what happened to him. https://www.espn.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/26417201/penn-1979-final-four-run-marked-end-era

Good memory! Penn came in fourth after DePaul beat them in the loser bracket.

Funny story. As a poor college student, it was hard to arrange a hotel in Salt Lake City for the game, so me and my friends called up Brigham Young University and said we were prospective students and would like to tour the campus and oh-by-the-way could we also stay in a dormitory while we are there? No mention of DePaul. However, when we got there, our student hosts quickly figured it out and were relieved that they didn’t really need to show us around. Staying in a primarily Mormon men’s dorm was a trip, and let’s just say we felt like Martians visiting the Earth for the first time, especially since all of us had heavy beards and all the BYU guys looked like 1950s teens who just got back from the drive-in. I don’t mean that in a bad way as we genuinely liked everyone we met. But I have no idea how Bears’ QB Jim McMahon was able to survive there, other than the fact that the Mormon girls were quite fetching.

Nice take on Pistol Pete and shooting. Never heard of the 50-40-90 club. I always thought the triple-double (points, assists, rebounds) for a season--Oscar Robertson did it twice, IIRC, was pretty awesome. Never heard of Caitlyn Clark, either, so I've missed the hype. Which is OK.
